In May 1940, a photographer captured 93-year-old Henry Maurer holding up a newspaper announcing the fall of Belgium - a Civil War veteran watching a second world war escalating.

He had marched with Sherman to the Sea in 1863, lived to see his grandsons march off to fight fascism in the 1940s, and was there to greet them when they came home in 1946.

Henry Maurer died in 1947, Dauphin County’s last Civil War veteran.

PUBLIC NOTICE: Fort Indiantown Gap is scheduled to host training during the month of May that could result in increased noise levels. It is announced as a courtesy to the public.

💥Helicopter door gunnery training is scheduled for May 1 to 2 between 7 a.m. and 11:59 p.m.
💥Artillery training is scheduled for May 5 to 11 between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m.
💥I.E.D. lane training is scheduled for May 5 to 8 and May 12 to 15 between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.
💥Demolition training is scheduled for May 8 to 10 between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m.
