Friends of Lykens is the civic volunteer organization of the Lykens Community Development Corporation a Non Profit 501-C dedicated to improving the town of Lykens and surrounding communities. We coordinate several events throughout the year, including the Memorial Day parades and community picnic; the Summer Concerts in the Park series, the Lykens Fall Festival; the Halloween Parade; and the Chris

tmas program and Visit from Santa. Through Volunteering is how we get things done! If you are interested in improving the quality of life and services in Lykens and helping do more events and programs, please join us. Friends of Lykens meets regularly on the 2nd Monday of each month at 7:00 pm. May - October meetings are held at the train station. November - April meeting locations vary.

In May 1940, a photographer captured 93-year-old Henry Maurer holding up a newspaper announcing the fall of Belgium - a Civil War veteran watching a second world war escalating.

He had marched with Sherman to the Sea in 1863, lived to see his grandsons march off to fight fascism in the 1940s, and was there to greet them when they came home in 1946.

Henry Maurer died in 1947, Dauphin County’s last Civil War veteran.

PUBLIC NOTICE: Fort Indiantown Gap is scheduled to host training during the month of May that could result in increased noise levels. It is announced as a courtesy to the public.

đź’ĄHelicopter door gunnery training is scheduled for May 1 to 2 between 7 a.m. and 11:59 p.m.
đź’ĄArtillery training is scheduled for May 5 to 11 between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m.
đź’ĄI.E.D. lane training is scheduled for May 5 to 8 and May 12 to 15 between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.
đź’ĄDemolition training is scheduled for May 8 to 10 between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m.

We received sad news of one of our yearly helpers with getting the Santa Claus truck together has passed away yesterday, Bob White. RIP Bob! Thank You for your years of help. The Klinger Family
