There are several funding and support options available for smallโ€‘scale pollinator habitat projects in urban and home garden settings. Programs like the USDAโ€™s Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) offer financial and technical assistance for planning, planting and maintaining native pollinator plantings, and partnerships through the Regional Conservation Partnership Program can connect projects with additional funding from organizations focused on habitat conservation. Other sources such as the Xerces Society provide grants and expertise, and working with local conservation districts or your NRCS office can help you identify opportunities that fit your project goals.

Harvest alert! Ever tried nettle? We'll allow visitors to go off trail this week in our prairie to harvest nettle (shown in the first photo). WEAR GLOVES to harvest and handle the plants due to the needle-like fibers on their leaves and stems. Cut stems to harvest. Bag them, rinse, and sautee or steam for tender, nutrient packed greens....they won't stay young and tender much longer, so get out there! You can also harvest and dry for tea for nettle's health properties.
In the food forest: sochan/cut leaf coneflower (photos 2 and 3), asparagus, chives, and walking/Egyptian onion tops. Cut or gently break stems to harvest each.
