Juneteenth is a day to celebrate, reflect, and recommit. This Juneteenth, we honor the strength and resilience of Black Marylanders while acknowledging what the data consistently shows: Black Americans face persistent barriers to mental health care, including a shortage of culturally competent providers and systemic inequities in access and coverage.

These barriers are real, but they are not insurmountable. MHAMD works every day alongside communities, advocates, and policymakers to dismantle them, because we believe every person in Maryland deserves respect, dignity, and the opportunity to achieve their full potential, free from stigma and prejudice.

"Fusing men and fathers into the conversation has got to become mainstream." - James Worthy

At the 2026 Mental Health First Aid Maryland Summit for CHANGE, keynote speaker James Worthy highlighted the critical role men and fathers play in building stronger families and healthier communities.

As we recognize Men's Mental Health Month, it's important to acknowledge that for many men, accessing mental health services or seeking support can feel difficult due to stigma and societal expectations. James shared practical strategies and resources for engaging men and fathers in conversations about mental health and wellbeing.

June is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Awareness Month. PTSD can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. While everyone responds to trauma differently, persistent symptoms such as flashbacks, nightmares, difficulty sleeping, feeling constantly on edge, or avoiding reminders of the event may be signs that additional support is needed.

Recovery is possible. Effective treatments and support can help people heal and regain a sense of safety and wellbeing.
