We closed out the year for our St. James 4-H Livestock Ambassadors and our Jr. Ag Leadership group with agriculture tours in southwest Louisiana and south of Houston, TX. It was a great two days learning about different Louisiana crops, the livestock industry in Texas with plenty laughs along the way.

We visited the LSU AgCenter Rice Research Station where we got a tour with Dr. Kurt Guidry and visited a crawfish pond where Mr. Todd Fontenot taught us about the Crawfish industry. We then traveled to Texas to visit V8 Cattle Ranch, (Mr. Jim Williams and Mr. James Richard) and ended with a tour of Atchinson show pigs (Corey Atchinson)! Thank you to each of these individuals for taking time out of their busy schedules to educate our 4-H members on each of their operations!🍀

This past Tuesday, St. James 4-H members participated in the Southeast Regional Culinary Arts Contest. These individuals received an invitation to the regional cookery after placing first in their divisions on the parish level. We are so proud of them! Congratulations!! 🍀

St. James Parish 4-H was well represented at 4-H and FFA Capital Day yesterday. 8 Jr. Leader Members, two of those being Executive Board members, had the opportunity to participate in an agricultural committee meeting, meet with state representatives and senators, tour parts of the State Capital, hear inspirational words from Commissioner Mike Strain and visit the Louisiana State Museum. It was a great day advocating for 4-H at the Louisiana State Capital! 🍀
