So excited to share that the kids from East John Youth Center attended the fantastic event presented by MD Libraries Together and Calvert Library to celebrate Black History Month 2025! 🎉 We’re honored to have Michelle Coles share with us and to give back the kids made a book cover for Michelle. Michelle Coles is a civil rights attorney and the brilliant author of the award-winning young adult book "Black Was the Ink." 📚✨

This compelling story not only brings history to life but also addresses contemporary issues in a way that resonates with young readers. It’s a perfect opportunity for our kids to engage with important themes and learn from an inspiring figure. Plus, there will be books available for sale and signing! 📖❤️

🌟 Exciting news from The Chef's Tasting Table Culinary Arts Youth Program! 🌟

Yesterday marked our very first class, and we couldn’t be happier with how it went! Our young chefs arrived full of enthusiasm and ready to learn.
In Week 1, we focused on:

✔️ Kitchen Safety – Mastering safe movement in the kitchen

✔️ Knife Skills & Safety – Learning proper handling techniques and how to avoid injuries

✔️ Sanitation & Hygiene – Understanding the importance of cleanliness and food safety

The students were engaged, asked insightful questions, and their passion for cooking truly shone through!
We can’t wait to see what next week’s lesson has in store—this is just the beginning of an amazing journey!
Great job, future chefs! Keep up that energy and dedication as we grow together! 🍽️🔥

The Student Safety and Well-Being Advisory Committee (SSWAC) is hosting its first public listening session on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2025, at 6:30 p.m., at the Harriet E. Brown Community Center located at 901 Dares Beach Road in Prince Frederick.

The public listening session will provide information on the SSWAC's work in its first quarter, steps for the next quarter and create another opportunity for public comment. While regular meetings are held on the third Wednesday monthly at 2 p.m., this session has been scheduled to encourage greater public participation and insight into the committee's work.
