November 4, 1752, George Washington began his Masonic journey. He was initiated an Entered Apprentice by the "Lodge at Fredericksburgh."

This was only the third recorded meeting of the Lodge and the meeting location was not noted. The brethren likely met in a tavern. Our current Lodge building would not be constructed for another 64 years. Wor. Daniel Campbell presided in the East, and welcomed to our local fraternity Charles Lewis by affiliation and George Washington by initiation--the fifteenth and sixteenth names to appear in our surviving minutes.

Washington's initiation fee of 2 pounds, 3 shillings is indicated in our records to have been received on November 6.

One common Masonic conspiracy theory is that our nation's capital, Washington, D.C., was laid out with a Masonic design. Of course, this is untrue, but there is is a city in the United States that was most definitely laid out with Freemasonry in mind. Sandusky, Ohio, is composed of streets in a block pattern, reminiscent of the Holy Bible, with the square and compasses laid thereon; and, for maximum effect, many of the streets are named after famous Freemasons!
