Luray Garden Club meeting for August was hosted by Monica McCourt and Diane Sours, who served delicious desserts to the 15 members and one guest in attendance. Monica and Diane decorated the tables with the "Water's Edge" theme with marigolds planted in beach buckets for center pieces that were sold as Country Store items at the end of the meeting. Master Gardener Susan Finlay led a program on the Va. Cooperative Extension Master Naturalist Program. The design challenge for this month was a creative design using something found at the beach.

The design presenter for July's meeting was Master Accredited Master Flower Show Judge Grace Morris from Waynesboro. Grace did a presentation on "Designing in the Japanese Manner," with a focus on the Sangetsu School of Ikebana, creating 5 designs while explaining her plant material and container choices and techniques.

Susan King served as hostess, setting the tables with the Independence Day theme. In keeping with that theme, the design challenge was an Exhibition Table design. Thank you to the many members who brought in beautiful hortuculture exhibits for judging!

We enjoyed an amazing field trip to Harmony Harvest Flower Farm in Weyers Cave, lunch at First Watch in Harrisonburg, and a tour of Stony Run Green Houses-- hydroponic Greenhouse producing lettuce greens and basil in Shenandoah. What a day!
