Last night members of Local 5369 attended the PFFM Legislator’s Night. This was a great event and allows Union leaders to network with our elected officials. It was great talking with to discuss the needs of our town, our department, and the PFFM.

A-shift had a busy start to their shift today with 3 medicals being dispatched in the span of 30 minutes. Fortunately recall personnel were available to respond quickly allowing our 2nd ambulance to respond. Thank you to Career Firefighters of Townsend IAFF Local 4926 for handling the 3rd call for us. Additional members were recallled to cover the station.

Instances like this have become part of the norm for us and many other departments for far too long. Many departments don’t have the resources to handle their increasing call volumes. Relying on mutual aid only deprives departments of resources when they’re needed in their own towns.

Staffing needs to become a priority, not only in Lunenburg but throughout the state and country. Cities and towns continue to grow, driving call volumes up. Many times our recalls go unfilled, resulting in the station being uncovered. As Lunenburg begins to prepare for next year’s budget cycle, we kindly ask our residents to support our efforts to increase staffing, which will allow us to get closer to being able to provide a level of service that the town needs and deserves.
