πŸ€πŸ€We had a busy schedule yesterday!

πŸ€We started our monthly in-school science lessons with a fun and easy going activity with half our 5th grade class. We discussed landscapes, the different types, animal and human components in a landscape! Then our students made their own landscapes using folded cardboard, markers, and pictures. They had so much fun being able to just get creative!

πŸ€ After school we had our highschool meeting to help the kids practice public speaking. This is a great tool to have for everyday life, possible future encounters and their upcoming Project Achievement competition. Each kid stood infront of the room, and spoke about any topic of their choosing for one minute, without being able to watch the timer.
This allowed the Program Assistant to see where each child was at in their public speaking abilities, how well they are at improv, and where they could use some work. They were hesitant at first, but by the end of the activity they were asking to go again.

We hope y'all have a great weekend, and will have more fun updates next week! πŸ€πŸ€

Early this week, we hosted our monthly Adult Daycare visit!
They did the Senior Farmer's market at the front of the building, getting some yummy veggies, and then attending Mrs. Whitney's class where they enjoyed sugar free chocolate chip cookies for National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day! πŸͺ πŸ˜‹
They talked about field to grocery store ingredients- how there's a lot of processes that products go through, from fields to shelves in stores for purchase.
It was good seeing our friends and can't wait for thr next activity we host!

Our summer so far!

We have been so busy this summer over here in the Extension Office!

πŸ€ Our Program Assistant Emily Stewart attended Junior camp in Dahlonega, GA at camp Wahsega! There, she was an adult leader, assisted in activities and classes, and made new contacts to help our 4-H program GROW!

πŸ€ We had five 4-H'ers attend State Council- the 4-H version of the Olympics. Each District competes in various games and challenges with one goal in mind: to win the Iron Clover!
Sadly, Southwest did not place first, but we did come in second, so we will try harder next time around!

πŸ€ Four of our Senior 4-H'ers spent a week on Jekyll Island for summer camp! There, they learned about marine life, went on boat rides, went canoeing and so much more!

πŸ€ And after being all over the place this summer, our Juniors and Seniors came together yesterday for a meeting where we discussed upcoming events, and important information. After that, they broke off into group to discuss topics such as: Community Service, Fundraiser Ideas, and Any Other Thoughts. Then, we came back together had an open discussion of everything written down. And finally, we painted hand prints to hang up in our 4-H room to make it more of our own. πŸ’š

Today at the Stewart County School system, we worked on Push and Pull machines!
The task was to build something that could move a ball across the "track". The kids loved the hands on activity, and seeing how their creations worked!
