The Hanger Since 2009, The Hanger began helping students with back to school shopping. Building their self confidence & self worth, while also teaching them how to budget.

Working with school counselors helps us in knowing what students have the greater needs. The Hanger began in 2009, and our first year we had 8 students. In 2022, we're blessed with 124 students! We've helped thousands of students in starting school with new clothes and shoes. We do not focus on school supplies, even though it's a great need, it's one that we have chosen not to focus on due to the

huge need many local students are needing in starting school with new clothing. Clothing that fits them, their style and their self-worth. Allowing them to start school feeling confident and not distracted from insecurity and peer pressure. During our time with them, we're able to teach them how to budget in a fun way, give them attention and to feel valued. The feedback we've received consistently through the years has been that the students have a stronger focus in class, better grades, and they feel better about themselves and make friendships instead of being isolated. Our main source of obtaining students comes from school counselors from local schools. Other's are from neighbors and acquaintances that learn of a family who have a strong need. The majority of our funds comes from Parkway Life Church in Lumberton, Texas, for which we're extremely grateful for. This year, there has been an influx of families affected by the Covid pandemic and it has caused our number to increase higher than any of our previous years. I’m so overwhelmed with the number of people who have volunteered, stepped up, given, encouraged …. Thank you all.

I never knew the dept or direction this little thought would grow into. Just shows that when you say “YES” to God’s will - know that He has a plan for you. He will equip you, even if it’s over time. He called me to do this and He has taught me many valuable lessons along the way. I’m honored, humbled and grateful.

Can someone do it better than me? 100%. But God called me for this. To be obedient in this work and His lessons of grace, wisdom, integrity, love, patience, dedication, encouragement, drive and even protecting His plans, principles and purpose for this - sometimes it’s challenging - yet very rewarding.

I’m not perfect, but I AM covered by HIS grace.

The school’s we work with:
Lumberton, Hardin-Jefferson, Kountze, Warren-Fred, Buna and Kirbyville.
And this year we have two foster homes were blessing - one in Woodville, the other in Jasper.

These counselors are amazing to work with and our volunteers are THE best!
