“Kayla's Act" (or Law) in North Carolina is proposed legislation designed to enhance protections for domestic violence victims following the 2023 murder of Kayla Hammonds. May 5th is the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) in the US and Canada, dedicated to honoring victims and raising awareness about the disproportionate violence against Native women. It was established in 2017 to honor Hanna Harris, a Northern Cheyenne woman murdered in 2013. People wear red to show solidarity.
Our agency was present tonight at the 7th Annual MMIWR walk to stand in solidarity with every family member, friend or acquaintance that had missing person in their life or was tragically murdered.

Denim Day is an annual international campaign held on the last Wednesday in April (Sexual Assault Awareness Month) where people wear jeans to protest victim-blaming in sexual violence cases. Started by Peace Over Violence in 1999, it originated from a 1990s Italian Supreme Court ruling that overturned a r**e conviction because the victim wore tight jeans, implying consent.
R**e Crisis Center of Robeson County stands in solidarity with victims of sexual assault.
