4/10/1978 - 10/22/2019

Five years ago today the other half of my heart was crushed when I lost my firstborn son Marcellus. Join me today in missing him, but also remembering the many moments of joy he brought into our lives with his humor, music and “Koolaid smile”.

In memory of Marcellus and his brother Thomas, please consider a donation to the Alpha Omega Fundraiser for the Thomas/Marcellus Blackmon Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Facebook friends and family, WELCOME TO OCTOBER!

It's that time again to focus on fundraising for the scholarship in memory of my sons, Thomas and Marcellus.

First, I would like to thank all of the generous donors who have contributed to the fund in the past 8 years. Twelve deserving students have benefited from your donations. I hope that many of you will decide to participate in this year's effort. Any amount will be appreciated and help deserving students reach their educational goals.

“Bridging the Educational Opportunity Gap”

The Thomas Blackmon Memorial Scholarship was originally established in 2016 in memory of Thomas Eward Blackmon (Tomee). The scholarship aims to address the “opportunity gap” resulting from the chronic disconnection of some youth from educational opportunities.

In 2019, following the death of Tomee’s brother Marcellus, the name was changed to the Thomas/Marcellus Blackmon Memorial Scholarship Fund. For more information, visit the website - tmblackmonscholarship.squarespace.com

ALPHA-OMEGA FUNDRAISER is designed to focus on donations for the scholarship during October each year. This time frame includes Thomas’ ALPHA, October 1, 1982 and Marcellus’ OMEGA, October 22, 2019. (However, fundraising is an on-going endeavor and donations may be made at any time.)

All donations will be used to fund scholarships for students. Donors will receive a receipt by mail or email.

You may donate in several ways:

Students often lack the means to continue their education beyond high school. To help combat this adversity, the Thomas/Marcellus Blackmon Memorial Scholarship Fund seeks to help provide students with an opportunity to attend a two or four-year program of study.

Congratulations to Ty’Lek Blackledge, the 2023 recipient of the Thomas/Marcellus Blackmon Memorial Scholarship.

Ty’Lek is a 2023 graduate of Cross Creek Early College High School in Fayetteville, NC.

Quote from Ty’Lek:
“My name is Ty’Lek Blackledge, and I am a first-year student at North Carolina State University majoring in Biological Sciences.
My future goals are to continue being a leader and to use that skill to establish my own veterinary business. Being chosen for this scholarship is a huge accomplishment for me, and I am very appreciative of the opportunity. It makes me proud to know that my academic success does stand out and that continuing to work diligently will help open doors like this one for me in the future!”

If you would like to help deserving students like Ty'Lek attend college, please consider making a donation. Any amount would be a great step in helping students achieve their educational goals. All donations will be used to fund scholarships for students. There are no administrative costs. Donors will receive a receipt by mail or email.
