Project Beloved: The Molly Jane Mission

Project Beloved: The Molly Jane Mission We strive to educate, advocate & collaborate to change the conversation about sexual assault. Molly Jane was r***d and murdered on April 10, 2017. She was 22.

Her death did not have to happen...had the system done its job properly. Project Beloved was created out of an obligation to bring light, Molly Jane's light, in the face of such extreme darkness. No family should have to endure the heart ache of losing a child to violence. It is Project Beloved's hope to bring awareness and change to the r**e culture which exists and that the vision statement can

become reality...a culture where survivors of sexual assault are heard, perpetrators are prosecuted and justice is served.

Molly Jane’s Momma here 🥰
Today Molly should be turning 32. However, that is not happening.

Friends asked me what I planned to do to celebrate and truth be told I had not made any plans.

Then I remembered the most marvelous way I could celebrate Molly. My sweet friends at Conference on Crimes Against Women invited me to set up a mock Soft Interview Room. At first glance I could not see how…I do not have a warehouse of furnishings. So, I contacted friends at The Dove Agency to see if they might know a designer who could assist. They connected me with Angeline Hall of Angeline&Co and problem was solved in the most stunning way.

Angeline generously coordinated for movers to bring all the items needed to create a gorgeous Soft Interview Room. Attendees will be able to see with their own eyes what a trauma informed interview space can look like.

While I would rather be eating cake with Molly…this really was a lovely way to celebrate her.

And the icing on the cake was running into some of my most favorite people who are out there working to show us all how to do better.

Molly Jane’s Momma here…
Today was one I will remember fondly. I am a huge fan of the work Genesis Women's Shelter & Support So, when they announced the VIP guest for their luncheon was Mariska Hargitay of Joyful Heart Foundation I knew I had to go. Molly’s and my favorite binge watch was Law and Order SVU. My dog is named Olivia Benson. I am fairly certain Molly might have named a daughter Mariska.
It was a treat to listen to her share about her role on SVU and how it led her to a role as passionate advocate. She is the real deal.
🪣 Bucket list:
Be in same room with Mariska ✅
Meet Mariska ❌
Gonna keep trying!

We are honored to provide design assistance and donate art to Cleveland R**e Crisis Center for their new and BEAUTIFUL Soft Interview Room.

In the interest of full transparency, an important edit to the news article:
"The art in the room is inspired by the project, and by survivors."
Actually, the art is photographs taken by Megan Getrum, killed 5 days after Molly Jane by the same perpetrator.

It is important to me that Megan is properly credited ❤

This says it all:
“Studies have shown survivors have to tell their story at least a dozen times before anything happens,” she said. “And so to provide a space where they can share the most traumatic, life-altering experience in a space where it’s calm, it’s [comforting] for them, it is a soft landing to a hard story.”

Thank you for your willingness to collaborate and work with local law enforcement as they investigate these crimes.

And just like that the multi city speaking tour is over. Sounds funny to say it like that. Never been to Indiana and it was my honor to speak before a collection of SANE nurses, advocates, ER nurses, law enforcement and prosecutors. Thank you for the invite, Indiana SANE Training Project. The personal highlight was hearing from and learning from Dr Rebecca Campbell…one of my heroes. So much good work being done.
I am wearing white denim in honor of Denim Day 👖
