If you are considering volunteering and are wondering how in the world you can help build a house and how does it work, let’s give you some insight.
Planning and coordination have been happening for weeks. A small group of skilled volunteers have met, assessed, planned and began with the pre-build process.
The Waco Habitat for Humanity executive director and a long time volunteer are traveling down to help guide our day Saturday. They are successful at leading volunteers to a complete house frame build and wall raising in the morning and installing outside sheathing (OSB boards to close in the outside of the home) in the afternoon.
Requested volunteers only need to be able to follow directions, align studs and boards with pre-marked lines, use a hammer to nail boards together, work together as a team, and have fun.
Nothing to it, right! It just takes 15-20 volunteers for each 2 hour shift to easily accomplish the goal within the estimated time frame. Volunteers are welcome to stay as long as they like or work as many shifts as they are able to.
We do ask that volunteers are at least 16 years old. Younger, eager volunteers are appreciated but unable to remain at the construction site.
