Keeping Texas loggers informed, prepared, and safe!
Last week, Pro-Loggers spent the day at the Texas Forestry Association office in Lufkin for a CEU Workshop covering safety, load securement, OSHA, Best Management Practices, timber sale contracts, Forests of Exceptional Conservation Value, and DOT compliance.

Policy doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because relationships do. 🤝

At TFA, we don’t just show up when we need something. We build relationships with the people who represent Texas—and those relationships help move issues forward. That’s why conversations like our Branching Out discussion with Congressman Pete Sessions and Congressman Nathaniel Moran matter.

We talked about the issues shaping the future of Texas forestry—from family forest ownership and log truck weights to mass timber and federal policy. But just as importantly, we strengthened the relationships that help turn those conversations into action.

Forest health is about more than trees.
That was one of the key messages TFA Executive Director Rob Hughes brought to the Texas Legislature during invited testimony before the Senate Committee on Natural Resources and the House Committee on Agriculture and Livestock.

“Texas forests are water infrastructure. They protect our watersheds, support water quality, and strengthen the resilience of rural communities. But markets are also conservation and economic infrastructure, giving landowners the resources and incentives to keep forests healthy, productive, and protected from conversion,” he said.

Rob emphasized that active forest management, prescribed fire, and strong forest-product markets all play a role in reducing wildfire risk and keeping Texas forests healthy and productive.

🌲 Branching Out 2026 was a BIG one! Nearly 150 foresters, loggers, landowners, agency officials and others joined us for this year’s seminar. One of the day’s highlights was a congressional discussion featuring U.S. Reps. Pete Sessions and Nathaniel Moran, moderated by TFA Executive Director Rob Hughes.

Attendees heard from industry experts on timely topics including pesticide law, New World screwworm, protecting working forests and more. Guests also connected with exhibitors and got an up-close look at a rainwater simulator in action.

Today, we were pleased to welcome State Representative Trent Ashby for a conversation with leaders of our Legislative Committee about the issues affecting Texas' forestry, logging, and timber.

Open communication with our elected leaders is essential to making sure the people who work in these fields have a voice in the decisions that affect them. Building relationships in Austin helps us work together toward policies that keep our industries strong.
