The Lagoon Amusement Park first opened its gates to the public on May 18th, 1895 and would go on to go on to have many successful seasons, however, some of those seasons came with a series of unfortunate events that would lead to it's official closer in 1918.

What we have here for you today are two Rag time piano pieces written for the Lagoon, first the Lagoon Breeze Two-Step (1903) and then the Lagoon Rag (1907) both composed by Louis Mentel of Covington, KY. In a billboard that was posted on June 16th,1917, it stated that Louis Mentel was the leader of the band that played in the pavilion from 1917-1918, which leads us to believe these two pieces would have been played there at this time.

Performing these pieces in this video over 100 years later, is Rag Time enthusiast, Jeremy Stevenson of Cincinnati.

Jeremy joined us at our 130th Celebration of the Lagoon last May to perform the Lagoon Breeze Two Step and it truly felt like, even for just a moment, that we had stepped back in time.

So sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.

We are excited to welcome Carrie Bumgarner as the newest board member of the Ludlow Historic Society.

A great time was had at the Kenton County Public Library for Northern Kentucky History Day!

Both the Historic Society and Museum had representatives present, with our main topics of conversation being the Restoration of the Ludlow Store House, the 3D replicas of the Store House, Elmwood Hall, and The Gate House of the Ludlow Lagoon Amusement park, all completed by students from the Ignite Institute in Boone Co ! As well as the digital 3D module of the Lagoon Amusement park laid out over a map of Ludlow as it is today created by Andy Corn and a team from his architecture firm.

Preservation and story telling through modern techniques. Thank you to those who use their gifts to help keep our towns unique history alive.
