Fish On For Freedom

Fish On For Freedom Fish On For Freedom is a charity fishing event, held in our home waters of Ludington, Michigan for US Military service men and women.

Fish on For Freedom is a charity, not for profit event, that will be held in our home waters of Ludington as a token of thanks from our community to the men and women that have sacrificed so much making this nation what it is today. Although a big part of the event is the activity of going out fishing on the waters of Lake Michigan, we are also designing this event to be about the camaraderie of o

ur guests spending time together and the support our community can show towards the military veterans. The fishing event itself will take place on the morning of Friday, June 14th, 2024 with a tournament style start of fishing early that morning. Once fishing wraps up in the early afternoon, all the participating boats will gather outside the Ludington pier heads to proceed back into the harbor together. This will give community members a wonderful chance to line the Ludington harbor and welcome back the participants and thank them for their sacrifices for our country. After the boats are docked, we’ll be honoring our participants at a weigh in event and luncheon for all guests and volunteers of the morning’s activities. After the fish have been weighed, our guests fed, and fishing stories exchanged, we’ll also be giving awards for the day’s fishing activities.

Although this year looked a little bit different, we still had a great time celebrating our service men and women at the American Legion Post # 76, Edwin H. Ewing.

Everyone enjoyed a wonderful lunch provided by Ludington Meat Company, Ludington Bay Brewing Company, Hungry Howie's Pizza, and washed it down with drinks sponsored by Mccardel Culligan and Ludington Beverage.

We also would like to thank Harbor View Marina for their hospitality providing the space for registration and Brad Chapman - State Farm for the yummy donuts!

We hope everyone had the chance to enjoy a great time at Blessing of the Boats - Ludington MI and our captains were able to have their keys blessed ensuring a safe and happy boating season.

We would like to send a HUGE THANK YOU to all of the sponsors, volunteers, and captains who’ve stuck with us over the years and continue to show up and show out for this event.

We are so grateful to those veterans that still came out to enjoy a great afternoon. We appreciate you all more than you know. You are the reason that we continue to put in so much hard work and countless hours planning to make every year a success.

We are excited for next year and are hopeful we will be fishing!
From all of us Fish On For Freedom THANK YOU and FISHHHH ONNNNN🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

For anyone planning to attend today’s luncheon at the American Legion Post # 76, Edwin H. Ewing, it has been moved indoors! We will see you at 1pm today!

It’s kind of sad that we even have to make this post, but we do.
Tonight’s cancellation was not easy. It was a VERY thought out decision, made by VERY experienced charter captains. In the 11 years that this event has been going, this is the first year ever cancelling due to weather. But, when a Small Craft Advisory is issued, it’s an automatic cancellation. That’s just how it goes in the tournament world. It’s all about safety.

That being said, if you send rude messages or post rude comments about the event, your distaste for the decisions made, or the event organizers, please understand that you will not be welcomed back. We do not tolerate it.

To everyone else, THANK YOU for your understanding. We are sad too and trust me when I say, we’d much rather be fishing.
Thank you all again. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow at the luncheon 🇺🇸

Due to the Small Craft Advisory issued, fishing for this years Fish On For Freedom has been cancelled. We WILL STILL HAVE THE LUNCHEON at the American Legion Post # 76, Edwin H. Ewing starting at 1 pm.

Weather Talk-
We know Friday is looking a little on the rocky side, but in Michigan we have a saying ‘wait 20 minutes and the weather will change!’ We also know Lake Michigan has a mind all her own.

At this point, it’s a bit too early to call the tournament. Rest assured, we will be keeping a close eye on the weather as everyone’s safety is our #1 priority.

We will still have the Check in and Captain & Crew Meet & Greet tomorrow evening.

If we decide to cancel following the Meet & Greet, it will be announced here. If we let it ride for the night until Friday morning, that means that there is a better chance fishing, than not.

In the event that we delay the start, we will delay up to 2 hours before calling it.

Even if fishing is canceled, THE LUNCHEON WILL STILL TAKE PLACE!!

We will see you all tomorrow🇺🇸
