Join us on October 7 from 6pm-7pm, via Zoom, as YWCA Kalamazoo hosts statewide “Know Your Rights: 101”!

This education workshop will be presented by MI AECRES (Advocating for Every Child's Right to Educational Success) a nonprofit comprised of seasoned attorneys and advocates passionate about ensuring all children - especially low-income and minority children with disabilities - receive the quality education they need to thrive.

MI AECRES centers students’ rights in the education system by providing free or low-cost non-legal advocacy and legal representation to students, throughout West Michigan, to protect and enforce their education rights.

The “Know Your Rights:101” workshop, presented by MI AECRES Executive Director Jaquelyn Babinski, Esq, will cover best practices regarding:

-Special Education,
-Families’ and students’ rights,
-Education Advocacy, and
-Community engagement.

We invite and welcome all students, family, and educators to attend. As many schools across the state are returning to the classroom, it is vital that we are connected to the resources available to support students and families to empower them to have a safe and equitable learning experience!

This is a virtual event hosted on Zoom, and registration is required. Click here to register: tinyurl.com/KnowYourRightsWorkshop2021

We are excited to welcome our newest intern, Alex!

Alex is from Canton, Ohio and and graduated from Ohio State University cm laude with a Bachelors of Arts and Sciences in Communication in May 2020. She is currently attending the University of Akron School of Law.

Alex wanted to work with MI AECRES because she says it was different than any other job posting she’d seen when applying for internships. She’s worked with children most of her life through nannying for different families in both Canton and Columbus, but this position resonated with her because of its advocacy focus, and it felt like a more personal and hands-on way to help people.

We are so happy to have you on the team, Alex!
