The 16th annual SkillsUSA Golf Tournament was held this past Saturday under windy conditions at the Elks Country Club in McDermott, Ohio. The scramble event serves as a fundraiser for students who attend Scioto County Career Technical Center and compete in SkillsUSA local, regional, state and national competitions.
The team consisting of Cory Prose, Tanner Stevenson, Trey Craycraft and Ross Ferrell won the tournament with score 56, which is 16 under par. The team also won a skin on the number nine hole. All total, the team won $800 for the day.
Coming in second with a score of 59, 13 under par was the team sponsored by The Boneyfiddle Golf Lounge. It consisted of Derrick Pennington, Seth Dixon, Tanner Bolin and Charlie Cooper. The team payout was $300,
The team sponsored by Driving Faith Golf Apparel, which consisted of Derec Jones, Andy McGinnis, Ray McGinnis and Ryan Jones, also won a skin on the number fourteen hole to accumulate a total prize amount of $200.
There were three skills prizes that awarded players with $100 each. Emma Dodson sank the longest putt on the number nine hole for the day. John Beasley had the longest drive on #18. And, Mark Salisbury was closest to the pin on the par three, number four hole.
Door prizes were awarded to each of the 128 golfers who participated. And, The Scioto Ribber provided the food for the awards dinner. Sam Franklin and his employees at the Elks Country Club prepared and ran the tournament well.
Scioto County CTC employees who volunteered to register and serve the players were Angee McGlone, Sarah Sand, Helen White, Craig Tackett, Randy Dalton and McKenzie Colley. SkillsUSA Advisor, Jay Miller was director of the tournament. “Much appreciation to all those who participated and helped with this worthy event.”
