Talk about making an entrance!

During this recent Black Vulture release, these young birds wasted no time showing off one of the behaviors that make vultures so unique. The second they stepped out into the sunlight, they spread their wings wide to soak up the sun.

This behavior, often called sunning, can disinfect their wings and help prevent the spread of bacteria. It's just one of the many incredible adaptations that make vultures such important members of our ecosystem.

We're preparing for our first-ever Osprey release!

Patients 26-0565 and 26-0566, two first-year Osprey siblings, came into our rehabilitation clinic with no significant injuries or medical concerns. Since then, they've been growing stronger in our rehab aviary, preparing for the day they can return to the wild.

And they are devouring plenty of fish along the way!

Now, there's just one final step standing between these two Ospreys and release:

🐟 They need to be prey tested with live fish.

For an Osprey, successfully catching live fish isn't just a skill, it's essential for survival. Ospreys are specialized hunters and the one of the few raptors that plunge-dive into the water to catch live fish as their primary prey source. Before we can confidently send these two back into the wild, we need to know they can hunt successfully on their own.

That's where we need your help!

We are currently looking for donations of live fish so we can complete their prey testing and get these incredible birds through the final stage of rehabilitation.

If you are able to help provide live fish, please reach out to us at [email protected]! Every donation brings these two Ospreys one step closer to spreading their wings and returning to the wild where they belong.

Ospreys are incredible anglers. Studies have found that they can successfully catch a fish on at least one out of every four dives, with success rates sometimes reaching as high as 70%! Now it's time for our two patients to show us what they can do.

In celebration of North Texas Giving Day, we're giving our community a very special way to support BPRC and help welcome the newest member of our family!

A brand-new Burrowing Owl Ambassador has officially joined Blackland Prairie Raptor Center, and there's just one very important thing missing: A name!

Our newest ambassador recently arrived from Foxloft Vulture Conservancy and is now settling in and beginning training with our education team. Soon, this incredible little owl will help inspire thousands of people to learn more about raptors, wildlife, and conservation.
