The foundation provided a grant for the restoration of this garden for the America 250th Birthday celebration in 2026. Great work REACH.

Here’s an update on The Colonial Garden 🪴 The beds are built and almost complete, just a smidge more dirt needed. The fence is taking a little break, but will be back up once the fence posts get realigned. We're adding a stone path between the big bed and the three smaller ones. A door to the garden will make its debut opposite the shed. And, the free book library 📚 box has found a new spot on the telephone pole between the garden and parking.

May is Drive Ohio Byways Month

Exciting news! At our quarterly meeting, the Malabar Farm Foundation board approved funding for several impactful local projects:

✅ $6,000 to upgrade the security and fire alarm system at the historic Big House at Malabar Farm State Park.✅ $500 to renovate an educational Colonial Garden at City of Mansfield Parks and Recreation Department's South Park Pioneer Village, in collaboration with the Richland Early American Center for History. ✅ $290 Ad to support the redesign and printing of the Mohican/Malabar Regional Trail Map brochure.

We’re proud to continue promoting the legacy of Mansfield native Louis Bromfield while supporting Malabar Farm and our local community! 💚

South Park in Mansfield recreates a Colonial Garden reconstruction with grand reopening in 2026 to celebrate America's 250th Birthday.

We are pleased to announce that the garden formerly known as the Children’s Educational Garden, located in South Park, will transition to the care of Richland Early American Center for History.

The garden will be closed for the 2025 season as we undergo reconstruction. We are currently planning a colonial garden, which will reopen for the 2026 planting season.

Why a Colonial Garden? The main reason for creating a colonial garden is that it maintains consistency with the theme of the other historical buildings in the park. Check back for updates and watch our progress.

Looking for a new hobby? Try this blacksmithing introduction class.

Learn the history of blacksmithing, basic tooling, fire skills, steel/iron identification, and hammer control skills.

Each participant in the May class will make hand forged nails and a bottle opener involving drawing, upsetting cutting, punching, and drifting.

Scott has been operating out of Zoar Village site for 14 years and has been conducting workshops for 12 years. He has worked at Lyme village, Roscoe village, Huron County Fair, Ohio Village, and Pioneer Village in East Liverpool.

Class will be held at Hawks Nest Forge located at South Park, 100 Brinkerhoff Ave, Mansfield, Ohio. It will be held rain or shine. $125 donation per person which will include a boxed lunch.

Great time had by all during the Maple Syrup Festival.

A huge thank you to the many dedicated volunteers who make the Maple Syrup Festival a success. We couldn't do it without you and a number of Ohio State Park staff from around the state who help ensure that everything runs smoothly.

The foundation provided funding for the new public tour wagon. The old tour wagon purchased by the foundation over 30+ years ago.This new wagon was custom made locally and is ADA accessible. It got its first use during the Maple Syrup Festival this past two weekends.

Stop by the Visitor Center and see exhibits and shop at the gift shop

Make sure to check out the maple syrup display in the visitor center exhibit hall, open during the Maple Syrup Festival tomorrow, 12pm-4pm. And of course purchase your favorite maple goodies at the Pugh Cabin! If you can’t make it tomorrow there is another chance next weekend on March 8th and 9th.
