West Texas Organizing Strategy

West Texas Organizing Strategy WTOS is made up of congregations and other civic groups that have come together out of a deep mission and concern for families in West Texas.

West Texas Organizing Strategy (WTOS) and our citizen “leaders” are practicing true democracy in West Texas. The purpose of WTOS is to teach leaders about participative democracy. In responding to queries about our methods, we, the WTOS “leaders,” describe ourselves as a “mini-university of democracy” as Proverbs 27:17 teaches: “... man sharpens his fellow man.”

WTOS is non-partisan. We are not D

emocrats. We are not Republicans. We are not Libertarians. We are not conservative. We do not endorse political candidates or political parties. We are upper-middle class and minimum-wage citizens. We are Anglo, Hispanic and African American. The diversity of our leaders is unparalleled. We are college professors, teachers, housewives, clergy and warehouse workers. We sit together at one table as equals to deliberate about our values. We value families, schools, congregations and our neighborhoods and community. We act on our values. We understand that the democratic process is the instrument for “change” and that the practice of democracy is how individual citizens learn how to act politically. For this reason, WTOS leaders engage elected officials on issues impacting what we value. The actions we take identify us. In all our actions, we are reasonable, we use good judgment, we temper our calls for change with respect, and we always come to the table well-informed. WTOS provides community forums on a regular basis to hear citizen concerns and provide updates on those issues.
