UPDATE: We are full, but I will still put your name on the standby list.
Hawk the golf course for rabbits!
The Rawls Golf Course, owned by Texas Tech University, within the city limits of Lubbock, has provided us with an unprecedented, one day opportunity to hawk rabbits on the golf course. The golf course is closing for one full day to accommodate NAFA. This is a big deal, as the course has not closed for any reason except Christmas Day in many years. Rabbits are abundant on the golf course property. Population estimates for black-tailed jackrabbits and cottontails combined are above 20 rabbits per acre on the course. It is a priority for the golf course to catch as many rabbits as possible, so priority will be given to groups of Harris’s hawks, but goshawks and red-tails will also be welcome.
If you would like to hawk the course, you must coordinate with me for a time slot on Tuesday, December 4th. There are ten one hour time slots available. If you plan to hawk many birds, it may be possible to reserve a two hour block. You must stay on schedule and unless an emergency happens, be done hawking, with your birds put up at the end of your one hour block. Time slots begin at 7:30 am (sunrise) and the last slot begins at 4:30 pm, ending at 5:30 pm (sunset). If you are interested, please send me an email at [email protected] and we can discuss reserving you a slot. Please tell me how many birds you plan to hawk and include a phone number. I’ll have the full schedule at the meet and will confirm with you on Monday, December 3rd. Attached is a map of the Rawls course so you can determine if you would like an opportunity to hawk the course.
Thank you,
