One of the most beautiful things about the church is that we don’t go through life alone.
On the same Sunday, you can hold somebody’s new baby and hug someone who just buried the person they loved most.
You can congratulate a young couple on their engagement and then sit down with another couple whose marriage is barely holding together.
You can watch a child come out of the baptismal water and later talk with an older saint about moving out of the home they have lived in for forty years.
Someone is starting a new job. Someone else has just lost one. One family received the news they had been praying for. Another received news they never wanted to hear.
That is church.
Not everybody living through the same season, but people in completely different seasons learning to walk through them together.
Church is not a room where everybody is happy at the same time.
It is a family where somebody is usually rejoicing while somebody else is grieving.
And we learn how to do both.
We bring meals.
We send texts.
We sit in waiting rooms.
We hold babies.
We stand beside graves.
We celebrate anniversaries.
We pray when we do not know what else to do.
That is ordinary church. A group of imperfect people learning, little by little, how to carry one another through life.

Beautiful thoughts by Pastor James Bell, Fenton Michigan.

October is Pastor Appreciation Month! Today we surprised Pastor Jenny with a gift and a special choir anthem...we are so blessed to have her as our Shepherd. Feel free to express your own personal appreciation to Pastor Jenny (and/or the pastor of your church if you attend elsewhere). And thanks to those who coordinated the surprise! 😇✝️🙏

On the first Sunday in October, United Methodist congregations join many Christian churches across the globe in celebrating World Communion Sunday.

World Communion Sunday began at Shadyside Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1933. The Rev. Hugh Thompson Kerr and his congregation sought to demonstrate the interconnectedness of Christian churches, regardless of denomination. Rev. Kerr appropriately chose the sacrament of Holy Communion to symbolize this unity.

In 1940, the Federal Council of Churches of Christ in America, which included all of the predecessor denominations of The United Methodist Church, adopted World-Wide Communion Sunday.

Isn't it neat to think that all around the world today people are receiving communion...and it all started in Pittsburgh! Please join us at 11:00 to be part of this great observance.
