On March 30th, we hosted our very first Family Tech Night, and it was an incredible success! Families came together for an evening full of creativity, collaboration, and hands-on learning. One of the highlights of the night was our straw bridge challenge, where teams competed to design and build the sturdiest structure using only simple materials. It was amazing to see the different strategies and problem-solving approaches everyone brought to the table. We also explored the fundamentals of electricity through our lemon battery experiment, where participants uncovered how energy can be generated in fun and unexpected ways.

We’re excited to keep the momentum going and announce our second Family Tech Night happening on April 27th! This time, we’ll be diving into even more exciting projects as we build our own volcanoes and create mesmerizing lava lamps. We can’t wait to see everyone there for another night of learning, discovery, and fun!

Last Thursday, our Kids in Tech team had an amazing time at the Murkland School for Lesson 4 of our aviation curriculum! Students explored the science behind flight, learning how airplanes and helicopters work while asking great questions and making exciting real-world connections.

Students built their own whirlybirds and experimented with their paper airplanes by adding paper clips to see how weight affects the center of gravity. Watching them test, adjust, and improve their designs was incredible with so many “aha!” moments as they saw how small changes impacted how their creations flew!

Last Thursday marked the successful launch of the Kids in Tech aviation curriculum at the Murkland School. It was rewarding to see the students' enthusiasm as they learned the four properties of lift through hands-on experimentation with paper airplanes.

The energy in the room was incredible, and the level of engagement with the material made for an impactful day of STEM learning. A huge thank you to the Murkland School for hosting us.

Change begins with education, and thanks to National Grid, girls at Girls Inc. of Lowell are learning how to tackle climate challenges head-on. From leadership skills to hands-on projects, these young women are becoming advocates for a more sustainable future.

Day 2 with Girls Inc. of Greater Lowell was a deep dive into the historical roots of environmental inequity.

The session moved beyond current data to explore the history of redlining and its long-lasting impact on the urban landscape. By connecting mid-20th-century housing policies to modern-day heat islands and air quality, our students are gaining a firsthand understanding of how systemic decisions shape the health of a community.

Understanding the past is a necessary step in designing a more equitable future. It is inspiring to see these young leaders using both STEM and history to advocate for a better Lowell.

Happy Pi Day to all the future engineers and mini-coders! Today is all about celebrating that infinite, non-repeating magic that keeps our world—and our code—spinning. Whether we’re calculating the perfect arc in a game or just vibing with some 3.14, it’s the best day to remember that some problems are worth solving, even if they go on forever. Let’s grab a slice and keep building the future, one digit at a time!

This past Monday, Kids in Tech kicked off our brand-new Environmental Justice program in an epic collab with Girls Inc. of Greater Lowell!

We’re not just talking about STEM—we’re using it to tackle real-world issues right here in our backyard. From tracking air quality to mapping out green spaces, these girls are learning exactly how to use tech to advocate for a cleaner, fairer Lowell.

The energy on day one was unmatched. These future leaders are already asking the tough questions and getting ready to build a more sustainable community. Can’t wait to see the impact they make over the next few weeks!

We’re celebrate Women’s History Month by honoring the pioneers who paved the way and the young innovators who are building what comes next.

Our mission has always been about empowering the next generation of girls in tech, and this month serves as a powerful reminder of why that work matters. Throughout March, we are excited to highlight the incredible achievements of women in STEM—from the hidden figures of the past to the creators leading the industry today.

We can’t wait to spend the next few weeks sharing these stories, sparking new conversations, and showing every young girl that there is a place for her in the world of technology.
