As our Lowell kids enter school Tuesday, I am excited for new book selections in their libraries. Those local are likely aware of materials in our high school library that have made many uncomfortable. On Main Street it was not uncommon for visitors to bring this topic up. My answer was typically to let them know of the good that is happening in our schools, and to encourage them to speak life into their children to guide their choices. I spoke often of the good I saw happening around me-from adults and children alike-daily in our schools. The end of the school year aligned with the closure of our physical space, and donating some of our books was only natural.

Over a dozen books were happily accepted and on shelves in no time. A recent news clip featured one of the titles on display, a kind note was sent our way from the librarian, and a student snapped a photo of one of these books because he was so excited. To equip our community to share goodness, speak life into our children, and provide ways for them to live out their faith has been the goal. This goal remains.

We have another literary donation in the works, and look forward to these excellent reads making their way to the shelves if accepted. Separate from us, lots of light is shining this school year. LifeWise Academy is now in our district. Athletes in Action will once agan host morning huddles at the high school. Students are boldly sharing their faith in many creative ways and it makes a difference.

Yesterday I had the opportunity to meet with Greg Yoder, Executive Director of Keys for Kids Ministries. Along with their kids podcast, they now have Keys for Kids Connect for adults. It was exciting to share with him the work we are doing to show the love of Jesus in Lowell. If you are a podcast listener, check it out.

Good Friday. It is a good Friday.

This day is always so hard for me. I started my day dropping off book donations to our local schools. The prayer is that these encouraging books will find their way into the libraries, so they are accessible to students seeking truth. While these materials can’t be offered, they can be available, so I will provide whatever I can.

Today Light of Lowell will be open from noon-7pm. We are working to clear out inventory, so come by if you can and grab an Easter gift.

Our work in this community isn’t finished, it will just look different. Ready for how God uses us next.

I spent time today talking to someone about our mission. It was a gift. God is so good. Even though we are in a time of transition God is still at work in this space.

Sharing the light of our town with one another is what we have loved doing and I recently saw someone hoping to give an incredible gift.

A Lowell mom who is nursing their 5 month old has a ton of frozen breast milk, and her baby won’t take a bottle. She would love to donate it to a baby here who could use it. If you know someone who could-send us a message!

I always say your first ministry is your family. Over the past 5 months our family has had a number of changes requiring more of our time, resources, and energy than we ever thought possible. While we love the work we are doing, we are not able to pour into it as we initially planned or as it deserves. Because of this we need to step back from this space. We will still pour into our community, it just needs to look different and we are asking God to show us what that looks like. We do know it means our commitment to this physical space has come to an end.

If someone feels called to pick up where we are leaving off, we will work to see how we can make that happen. God had done amazing things in this space and we are sad to see it end, but we know it isn’t over. For now we need to pour into our children, our family, and our health.

Over the last few weeks we have been recovering from Ron’s surgery, have been out of state laying my grandmom to rest, and juggling one driver for three kids while he continues to heal. It’s been a lot. We have also had so many friends cover us in prayer, provide meals, and help us transport kids. We are grateful.

We did not make this decision lightly. In fact, it has come with tears and hard conversations. Our financial investment was significant, and with the exception of a few hundred dollars in donations, we have funded this on our own. We are amazed at the people who poured in, prayed, and encouraged us and know it made a difference. This season is just looking differently than we expected, and we need to regroup to consider what comes next.

Well, it been a hard week. Monday Ron broke his ankle and lower tibia. Of course it is his right side (driving is definitely oit for a long time). No weight bearing for at least 6 weeks and we will find out Monday if surgery is needed. We’ve been taking things hour by hour this week. Juggling how to get 3 kids different places at different times multiple times a day has not been easy. We are thankful for the many prayers, abundance of love, help, support, and so much else that has come our way, but we truly needed to pause and just listen for God to speak into this circumstance. He has, and He continues to, we just needed a reset and to get a plan in place of how to manage day to day life. We are getting there…

We are taking another day of rest in hopes of truly kicking this sickness for good. It’s been a long week and we appreciate the prayers. Looking forward to opening next week germ-free.
