MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COLDWATER RIVER WATERSHED COUNCIL BOARD OF DIRECTORS HELD MAY 8, 2013

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. It was attended by Paul Eberhart, Rich Steketee, John McKenzie, Ron Barch, Ellen Smith, Sam Pyle, Dana Strouse, Kristi Klomp, Gary Mast, and Dick Smith.

John Mckenzie and Paul Eberhart said the May 18 work day is all planned out. They are expecting 12 to 14 people from Oakbrook. We will serve coffee and donuts at 8:30 a.m. at the golf course and start working after that. Because it is difficult to get in and out of the work area, they plan to work until about 2:00 p.m. Lunch will be served in the picnic shelter at the golf course at about 2:30 p.m. Bratwurst, hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, baked beans, beer, water, and soda pop will be available. Waders will be necessary for some of the work. Rick Steketee and Dick Smith were asked to do the photography, and Ellen Smith will do the last minute on site organization for the lunch.

The page is looking good and we have 10 friends.

Ron Barch had fifty copies of the watershed council’s DVD made at a cost of $1.00 (one) each. He said we can have more duplicates made at the same cost whenever we need them.

We are hoping to receive a lot of help from the State of Michigan on the Freeport Dam removal project.

Paul Eberhart said all of the land has been cleared for the prairie grass project, and everything is going forward as planned.

The planting of trees, shrubs, and other foliage at the church on 84th Street will take place on May 25, 2013, which is a Saturday. The church is expected to provide refreshments, and most of the help that will be necessary.

Rich Steketee, John McKenzie, Paul Eberhart, and Dick Smith said they will do the sampling at the nineteen sites on Tyler Creek again this year.

Dick Smith was asked to provide a release of claims letter as the final document for the MICORPS project.

Ron Barch said he has talked with Bill Walker of the Jordan Lake Association and they are trying to get the association going again. They would like to work with the watershed council, the Michian DNR, and the Michigan DEQ to determine the best course for the organization’s future.

Dana Strouse said there is cow manure flowing into one of the Ionia County drains that flows directly into Jordan Lake. She also said our request for a CMI grant is now being reviewed by the state.

Sam Pyle gave the treasurer’s report. He said we have $ 1,336.53 (one thousand three hundred and thirty-six) in the checking account and $23,975.72 (twenty-three thousand nine hundred and seventy-five) in the money market fund.

Kristi Klump said the watershed signs will soon be put in place, and that we have already exceeded our required number of riparian landowner contacts, and that we now have about seventy percent of our required financial match for the grant.

Gary Mast said our In-Situ water volume measuring devices are now in place in the Flat River.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:08 p.m. The next meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. on June 12, 2013 at the Tyler Creek Golf Course.
