Visakha Puja Day is one of the most important days in Buddhism. On this sacred occasion, Buddhists around the world gather to commemorate the life of the Buddha and to pay reverence to His purity, profound wisdom, and immense compassion for all humankind and living beings.

Visakha Puja Day also marks the anniversary of three significant events in the life of the Buddha: His Birth, Enlightenment, and Attainment of Complete Nibbana, all of which are believed to have occurred on the full moon day of the Visak month.

All are invited and welcome to join us all at Vatt Khmer Lowell.

Save the Date! April 14–19, 2026

Happy Cambodian New Year – Sour Sdey Chnaim Thmei!

Traditionally, Cambodians celebrate the New Year for three days, beginning on April 13 or 14, depending on the lunar calendar. However, because many people in America have work and other weekday obligations, Vatt Khmer Lowell’s Board of Directors and the Buddhist Sangha have decided to host our Khmer New Year Celebration 2026 for six days.

Join us from Tuesday, April 14 through Sunday, April 19, 2026, from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM daily, at:

Vatt Khmer Lowell & Khmer American Cultural Center
66 Townsend Avenue
Lowell, MA 01854

People of all ages are invited to participate in meritorious acts, enjoy traditional performances, and join cultural dances accompanied by live music. Community members take turns blessing one another with scented purified water, offering wishes of success, good fortune, health, and happiness.

Throughout the celebration, families gather at the temple to build symbolic mountains of sand and receive New Year blessings from the monks. Many also pray to their deceased ancestors, asking for continued protection, guidance, and blessings for the weeks, months, and year ahead.

It is a joyful time of sharing food, wearing traditional clothing, and praying for peace and prosperity—not only for our families and community, but for all people and all living beings on our shared home, Earth.

All are warmly invited to celebrate Khmer New Year – Year of the Horse 2026 at Vatt Khmer Lowell!

Dear Friends and Community Members,

Please SAVE THE DATE — Sunday, March 15, 2026 — for a very special gathering as we honor the beloved legacy of Maha Ghosananda on the 19th Anniversary of his Holiness’s passing.

This meaningful day of remembrance will be celebrated with one of the most cherished Cambodian culinary traditions — Khmer noodles — featuring a variety of regional noodle soups representing the rich flavors of Cambodia, as well as interpretations from here in our adopted home, America.

It will be a day of reflection, community, culture, and shared blessings through food and fellowship.

All are invited and warmly welcome to attend. We hope you will join us for this special occasion.

With gratitude,
Vatt Khmer Lowell
