SEIU 888 is happy to announce that the house ways and means committee finally voted to move a version of the supplemental budget. That revised $2.7 billion budget was just passed by the full house of representatives last night. The budget now moves to the senate.

The budget includes funding for 87 collective bargaining agreements including the UML SEIU 888 contract that included 4% increases in July for members who were eligible. SEIU Local 888 continues to work in coalition with other public-sector unions to move this legislation to Governor Healey’s desk as quickly as possible.

We are happy to see this budget move forward and finally see the wage increases and adjustments ratified by members come to fruition.

SEIU Local 888 is sponsoring a Hockey Night for our members at the UML vs. UMass Amherst game on Friday, December 3rd. Come meet other members of the union and leadership, including Local President Tom McKeever.

Where: Tsongas Center

Tickets must be reserved by Sunday, November 28. Tickets to the game are free for members and their immediate family (limited to four per member). Tickets are digital and will be emailed on December 1st. There will be a reception with light snacks in the “Club Room” located behind Sections 111/112/113.

The Board of Trustees met today, and reviewed the financial situation of the university system. A few takeaways from the meeting:
1.) The impact to the fall was not as severe as we thought and we have stabilized our campuses.
2.) They are still refusing to utilize any portion of the stabilization fund to stabilize the university system to prepare for Spring semester.
3.) When talking about using the stabilization fund they go to extremes, to produce fear...the union is asking to use 10% of the fund to help bring additional staff back.
4.) We don't know what Spring will bring, but we know that at some point we will get through the pandemic.
