Janet Lambert Moore recently passed away. She was a longtime member of the Lowell Historical Society. She created so many prints & portraits of the lowell landscape.

In her honor tell us how many of her works you have in your house.

The Lowell Historical Society welcomes you for a tour of the Old English Cemetery on May 17th, 2026, at 10am. The tour guide will be Lowell Historical Society Board member Kim Zunino. Tour will be 90 minutes.

The Old English Cemetery (City Cemetery #2) had its official beginnings in 1832 when Simon Parker and Simon Parker, Jr. sold approximately 4.5 acres of land to the Inhabitants of the Town of Lowell for use as a Protestant burial ground.

The Old English Cemetery got its name from those buried there; records show that many early burials in the Cemetery were of English and Scottish descent and were skilled English calico printers from Lancashire who came to work in the mills. They were recruited by Kirk Boott himself, and he put the dyers and calico printers in boarding houses behind the mills which he dubbed “English Row.” The tour will showcase unique stones and stories of those buried here, including those who fought for better conditions in the mills, Civil War veterans, and victims of mill accidents.



Please, park along Gorham Street and meet at the gates and the tour will start promptly at 10am.

Great news from our friends at the Lowell Cemetery

At the March meeting, the Lowell Cemetery Board of Trustees elected Lewis Karabatsos as President, Rosemary Noon as Vice-President, James Latham as Treasurer, and Susu Wong as Clerk. This is the first time in the history of the cemetery’s 185-year history that women will serve as officers on the Board of Directors.

Lowell High School needs your help to add to its collection of yearbooks. In 2012, several yearbooks were digitized, providing a great resource for research and a fun time travel portal to see what high school looked like in days of yore. As part of an ongoing partnership with the Boston Public Library and the Internet Archive, more yearbooks will be digitized - BUT we are missing many years of Spindles!

1927-1933
1911-1925
1907-1909
Any years prior to 1904
If you have a LHS yearbook from one of those years to donate (the books will be digitized and the hard copies will be added to the collection in Lowell High's Stamas Library for use by students and staff), please contact Christin Monaghan, Library Media Specialist at [email protected]
