The Lowell Showboat Garden Club (LSGC) and one of its members have been nominated in two categories in The Lowell Ledger 2026 Best of the Best Readers Choice Awards!

First, LSGC is nominated in the Best Non Profit Organization category. We are honored to be nominated alongside several other great local non-profits.

Second, and no less important, our member Cinny Gould is nominated in the category for Best Non Profit Volunteer! Cinny is a recent past-president of the club and continues to serve in many ways! She’s the chairperson of our Riverwalk pots and Main Street Bridge boxes planting committee and a co-chair for our Fallasburg Arts Festival fundraising booth. And LSGC isn’t the only organization she volunteers with; Cinny can also be found helping at FROM on a regular basis. Congratulations, Cinny, and thank you for all you do for our community!

Please consider voting for the club and showing volunteer Cinny Gould your appreciation at the same time! Vote at https://lowellledger.org/best. We thank you for your support!

Reminder! Workshop tonight, Monday, 8/31, 6:30, at Cathy’s barn! Looking forward to seeing you!

The Lowell Showboat Garden Club is pleased to announce the success of two of our members at the 2026 American Dahlia Society National Dahlia Show. We offer our heartfelt congratulations to Mona Banta and Ksenia Clark!

Mona Banta (Banta Blooms Dahlias) garnered multiple awards including placement at the Court of Honor table for her “Best of the Best” Farmer’s Market Bunch! Mona also won first place for her stunning Irish Ruffles, Baron Aunt Dorothy, and Baron Sylvia dahlias. She received second place for her Robann Royal and Bloomquist Jean dahlias.

Ksenia Clark took home first place for her in the Tribute to Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park category for her arrangement, “A Child’s Sense Garden: An invitation to explore nature through all five senses”. Her colorful and thoughtfully designed entry included the following statement: “A kaleidoscope of dahlias delight the sight. Lavender and basil awaken the sense of smell. Variety of textures encourages touch. Seed pods evoke sound with garden breeze. Edible flowers, herbs, and berries introduce taste.”

Thank you Mona and Ksenia for sharing your talents. We are so proud of you!

P.S. You can still see the prize-winning blooms and all the other dahlias today (Sunday, 8/30) from 11a-5p at the Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park. Admission to the show is *free*!

Thank you to our Lowell Showboat Garden Club friend and volunteer Joel S.! During the July heat wave Joel came up with an idea to fill our watering cans more quickly. He then fabricated a four-nozzle spigot attachment to fill four cans at the same time! We appreciate you, Joel! Our downtown watering duties are easier because of you!
