Nelson County Pantry

The Nelson County Pantry is an equal opportunity provider. We are open on the last Saturday of every month from 9:00 am- 12:00 pm.

The exception to these hours are the months of November and December, which we are open the Saturday before the Holiday. We work by appointment at all other times, just give us a call!

Monthly Reminder / CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS
For Friday 5/29/26, and Saturday 5/30/26

FRIDAY, 5/29/26: Packing Day & Produce Delivery
We will need to pack 350 boxes on Friday, starting at 9:30. Fortunately, thanks to our helpers on Thursday of this week there are enough empty boxes ready to pack.
Also, the Produce Delivery Truck is expected at 2:00. We'll need a few volunteers to unload it.

SATURDAY 5/30/26 DISTRIBUTION - Volunteers please arrive as close to 7:30 am as possible. Distribution will begin around 8:15-8:30 and ends at Noon.
Volunteers should finish up by 12:30.

Eligibility: Nelson County resident, low income, and in need of food. We can register you and you can get food the same day (Sat 5/30/26). There is always plenty of work to do from taping boxes, pulling goods, packing produce and canned/non-perishable goods, setting up tables, traffic flow, pushing grocery carts and loading cars, etc. You can come volunteer for just an hour or any days listed, whatever time you can spare is appreciated! Just show up and sign in at the office. If you cannot volunteer but would like to help, donations are always needed and appreciated. The donation link is on our webpage: nelsoncountypantry.org

If you have good used Bold Rock boxes to return, please remember to bring them back on Saturday for reuse.

The National Association of Letter Carriers “Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive” was held on May 9 with participation by local letter carriers strictly voluntary. The Nelson Postal Employees chose to participate with overwhelming results. THANK YOU for collecting the donations and THANK YOU to all who donated.

A big THANK YOU to the Virginia Four Wheel Drive Association for the donations from your new Spring event. The Pantry received 251 pounds of food and personal hygiene products and $810 in monetary donations.

Thank you Mike Manthey from Bank of The James for providing the location and water for the car wash fundraiser. A special thank you to Mike Woolard from RE/MAX Mountain Valley Properties for not only hosting the car wash but also for generously matching the donations received. Thank you to all the volunteers who scrubbed away and a special thank you to everyone who showed up to get their cars washed. We raised $2822. with Mike Woolard’s generous match!

April Distribution Day at the Nelson County Pantry. Volunteer turnout was a little light but everyone did their best and made it happen. Thank you everyone!

Do you know where your food comes from? We do for 195 pounds of protein that was donated to the Pantry by the Nelson County High School FFA. The chickens, raised by the students, were divided into 2 groups each being fed a different type of food. Their growth was monitored and, when it was time, they personally processed and froze the chickens. Their hard work and generous donation will provide the protein for 39 families this month. Remember to thank a farmer and especially these future farmers for our food!

Monthly Reminder / CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS

THURSDAY, 4/23/26: Delivery Truck/Stocking
We expect a medium-sized delivery Thursday afternoon at 2:00. If you can help unload it will be very helpful.

FRIDAY, 4/24/26: Packing Day & Produce Delivery
Starting at 9:30 we will pack roughly 350 food boxes. We should finish up around 11:30. Also, the Produce Delivery Truck is expected at 2:00. We'll new a few volunteers to unload it.

Volunteers should finish up by 12:30-1:00 as cleanup takes about 45 minutes to an hour.

SATURDAY 5/9/26: CAR WASH FUNDRAISER
Our 3rd annual car wash will be sponsored again by Mike Woolard of REMAX from 8-12 in Nellysford at Bank of the James on Rockfish Valley Hwy. We need volunteer washers, If you can't volunteer, please consider coming in for a wash.

We are thankful for a warm and dry morning to pack food boxes at the Nelson County Pantry. Thank you Volunteers and of course our sweet, hardworking students from North Branch School. Hope to see as many volunteers as possible for Distribution Day tomorrow!
