Today, they come home. ❤️🐴

A week ago, we were loading trailers in nearly 100-degree heat, watching the sky, watching the wind, and making the difficult decision to move every animal at ROAR to safety.

The fire is much more under control, conditions have improved, and at this time we no longer have concerns about the fire threatening our area.

Back to their pastures.
Back to their routines.
Back to the place they know.

But before they make that journey home, there is one family we need to thank from the absolute bottom of our hearts.

To the incredible family who opened their pasture to our horses when we needed somewhere safe to go—thank you.

You didn’t just give them a place to stay.

You gave us something that mattered tremendously to us: the ability to keep our herd together.

These horses have already been through enough in their lives. During an evacuation that was frightening and unfamiliar, they were able to stay beside the horses they know, in one safe place, together.

You opened your property to a whole herd of rescue horses without hesitation and gave them somewhere safe to land while we waited to see what the fire would do.

There really aren’t words big enough for that kind of kindness.

Someday the horses won’t remember the fire. They won’t understand how many people were watching maps, checking winds, hauling trailers and worrying about them.

But we will remember.

We will remember every person who showed up. Every trailer. Every message. Every donation. Every prayer. And we will especially remember the family who said, bring them here, and gave our herd a temporary home when we desperately needed one.

And seeing those horses step back onto ROAR soil is going to mean more than I can put into words.

They’re safe. They’re together. And today, they’re coming home. ❤️🐴

Our hearts remain with everyone affected by this fire, and our gratitude remains with the firefighters and first responders who have worked tirelessly to bring it under control.

Home sweet home, babies. We missed you.

I need to say this from my heart.

I did not make the decision to evacuate our animals for attention, recognition, or donations.

I did it for them.

Yesterday, in temperatures nearing 100 degrees, I was outside with my four-month-old baby, rounding up horses and donkeys and doing everything in my power to move them to safety. It was physically and emotionally exhausting. There were moments when I felt completely overwhelmed, but giving up was never an option.

These animals are not possessions to me. They are lives entrusted to my care. They are my responsibility, my heart, and part of my family. I could never live with myself if I ignored the danger, waited too long, and something happened to them.

So I chose to act.

I endured the heat, exhaustion, fear, and enormous expense because that is what they deserved. They deserved to be moved before panic set in. They deserved patience, safety, and the chance to remain together. They deserved someone willing to put their lives first.

Many people have reached out asking how they can donate. I have struggled with sharing this because I never want anyone to believe donations were the reason behind our decision. But the truth is, this evacuation has placed a financial burden on our rescue.

Thankfully, a very kind person is donating the location where the animals are being housed, as well as their hay. We are incredibly grateful.

If you can donate, we would be deeply grateful. If you cannot, please share this post. Every donation and share helps us continue protecting the animals who depend on us.

To every person who showed up, brought a trailer, helped gather animals, offered them a safe place, donated, shared our story, or sent encouragement—thank you.

I did not evacuate them because it was easy.

I evacuated them because I love them.

And I evacuated them because their lives were worth protecting.

The moment we could finally breathe. 🥹🐴

After making the heartbreaking decision to evacuate ROAR Sanctuary, our horses are now unloading at a safe location—away from the smoke, flames, and uncertainty.

They don’t understand why they had to leave home. They only know that we asked them to trust us—and they did.

Every horse made the journey safely. Every horse is accounted for. Tonight, they are safe, together, and surrounded by people who love them.

Thank you to every person who brought a trailer, opened their property, prayed, shared our posts, or helped us move these precious lives. We could not have done this alone. ❤️

We have made the incredibly difficult decision to voluntarily evacuate every animal from ROAR Sanctuary as a precaution.

We are not currently under an evacuation order. The winds are in our favor and are expected to push the fire in the opposite direction for at least the next 24 hours. But we simply cannot gamble with the lives that have been entrusted to us—and we cannot afford to wait until it is too late.

We have gone back and forth over this decision more times than I can count. We did not make it lightly.

We have a lot of animals in our care, and these are not horses you can simply walk up to in a pasture, throw a rope over, and calmly lead onto a trailer at the last minute. Loading and moving everyone safely takes time, patience, people, and careful coordination. If we wait until an evacuation order is issued—or until the fire changes direction—there may not be enough time to get everyone out safely.

That is a chance we are not willing to take.

Evacuating will be a huge financial hit for us. Everything involved will add up quickly. It will also place tremendous stress on animals who have already endured so much in their lives.

But none of that outweighs their safety.

Every single animal is staying together. Every single animal will be accounted for. We will do everything in our power to make sure every one of them is safe.

This is a voluntary, precautionary evacuation. We are choosing to act now, while we have the time and ability to move everyone carefully, instead of waiting for an emergency in which every second counts.

This has been an incredibly emotional and painful decision, but when lives are depending on us, we have no choice but to err on the side of caution.

We would rather evacuate and later learn that it was unnecessary than wait too long and live with the consequences.

Please keep our animals, our volunteers, the firefighters, and every family in the path of this fire in your prayers. We have a long and difficult process ahead of us, but we are moving forward—together. ❤️

FIRE UPDATE 🔥

The Ross Fire has now burned approximately 80,000 acres and is only 12% contained. The most recent official update says firefighters were able to stop the fire from entering Young County near FM 1191 and Highway 16 South, and Young County is currently clear of active fire.

We are currently only about 20 miles from the threatened area. We are not under an evacuation order at this time—but with more than 50 animals depending entirely on us, we cannot wait until flames are at our doorstep to begin making decisions.

Our greatest fear is not simply whether an evacuation order will come. It is whether, if it does, we will have enough time to safely gather, load and transport every animal before conditions or road closures make leaving impossible. Evacuating a sanctuary is nothing like loading a family into one vehicle. It requires multiple trailers, volunteers, safe destinations and precious time.

Over the next couple of hours, we will be making the incredibly difficult decision of whether to begin evacuating voluntarily—even without an official order—because we would rather move too early than discover we waited too long.

Please keep ROAR, our animals, the families who have already been displaced, and the brave first responders fighting this enormous fire in your prayers. We are watching every update and will share more as soon as we make a decision.

🚨 WILDFIRE EMERGENCY NEAR ROAR SANCTUARY 🚨

A massive wildfire known as the Ross Fire is currently burning across Palo Pinto and Jack counties. The fire has reportedly grown to more than 50,000 acres, and evacuation orders have been issued for parts of southern Jack County as it continues moving through the area.

The fire is not far from ROAR Sanctuary, so we are taking every possible precaution. All of our animals have been moved to the front pasture, where they can be quickly gathered and loaded through our pen system if evacuation becomes necessary.

We have multiple trailers ready, and volunteers are standing by to help round up, load and safely evacuate every animal, as well as a safe location for them to go to. We are closely monitoring official emergency updates and are prepared to move immediately if directed.

Please keep everyone affected in your prayers—the families being displaced, the animals in the fire’s path, and the firefighters, first responders and volunteers working tirelessly to protect our communities.

Please pray for the winds to calm, for rain, and for everyone to make it out safely. We will continue sharing updates as this situation develops. 🙏❤️‍🔥

What does donating toward hay do?

It feeds horses like River.

River isn’t just a horse—she’s a mother. Because of your support, she gets to raise her baby where they belong: together, running free.

Sponsor a bale for $35 and help keep their bellies full. 🐴🤍

🎉 Update on our Hay Fundraiser! 🎉

We are incredibly grateful to share that an amazing donor has helped us get 20 bales halfway filled! ❤️

That means we’ve already made great progress, but we still need $17.50 per bale to finish filling those 20, plus the remaining bales that are still empty.

Every donation, big or small, gets us one step closer to making sure our horses have the hay they need through the summer.

Thank you to everyone who has shared, donated, and cheered us on. Your kindness truly makes a difference. Let’s keep the momentum going and fill every bale! 🌾🐴💚
