Get • My husband raised his right hand and re-enlisted in the Army on a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean the same day he died. He called me after these photos were taken, so excited to tell me about it. It would be the last time I would ever hear his voice. The next picture of my husband would be taken of him in a flag draped box. He served 8 years, 5 deployments, countless trainings and was a 1500 hr crew chief with almost a thousand of those hours in combat. He died serving his country but more importantly he died living the dream. .

Memorial Day is not the start of summer, it’s not a mattress sales gimmick, it’s not political (my husband served under 3 different administrations). It’s remembering that a good man; who’s favorite color was red, who hated being barefoot, who named our daughter Hallie because he loved the Parent Trap, who called his mama once a week, who brought me yellow roses instead of red ones because he said being married to his best friend was his biggest flex, who loved Italian food, was a beast on a dirtbike and had the best mustache on the planet….that man…died brave for you to live free. That’s the cost of a long weekend.

So please, enjoy your time. Soak in a beautiful weekend with your family enjoying good food and cold beer, it’s what we would be doing if we got to keep him… but maybe set out a coors banquet and say his name or any fallen soldiers name this weekend. memorialday widow military nsdq american

Get • SFC Ofren “AC” Arrechaga, killed in action March 29, 2011.... alongside SSG Adamski, SSG Burgess, SPC Lindskog, SPC Faulkner, and SPC Fieldhaus.... OPERATION STRONG EAGLE III.

AC was a giant amongst men. He will not be soon forgotten. His legacy lives on through his family and the men who serve in the No Slack Battalion.

Our boys from 2-327 No Slack had moved into a place that hadn’t been touched or seen by US Forces is a long time. See the story in the documentary “The Hornets Nest.” See how brave these men were. The fight that transpired. The courage.

The leather vest belonged to someone very special to me who is in heaven , Frank Adamski Jr. .

He was a gold star father . A Patriot

A friend but most importantly he was my brother . Thank you to his loving wife Cerina Tiny Adamski for such a priceless gift.

Get • This weekend, my girls will stand at Coca Cola 600 and see their daddy’s name on a race car.

And somehow that feels exactly right for Memorial Day.

Loud. American. Beautiful. Families gathered together. Flags flying. Cold drinks. Children laughing. Freedom on full display.

Because those we lost did not die so the country would sit quietly in grief forever.

They died so the rest of us could live.

So enjoy the day. Grill the burgers. Drink the beer, or for our paratrooper friends, the Jameson, (and make a toast to our fallen heroes). Watch the race. Hold your babies close. Laugh too loudly.

Just remember that every ordinary, beautiful part of this weekend was paid for by someone who gave their tomorrows for our today.

For some families, Memorial Day is a long weekend. For others, every day is Memorial Day, it’s a folded flag and a lifetime of missing someone while also living life to the absolute fullest knowing we hit the jackpot of being born in America. A country that is imperfect, but the greatest nation in the world.

I hope you have a meaningful Memorial Day weekend ❤️

Never Forget always Remember 🙏❤️🇺🇸

CPL Joshua Sticklen KIA Iraq December 3, 2006.

We have spent a lot of time with his family and friends over the years.

One person that I love dearly is perhaps one the most amazing people I’ve ever met, his Mom Maggie. Mama Stick as we call her.

Josh and know one thing your Mom, your family and friends are saying your name all the time!
