WHAT IS 4-H? 4-H is an educational program for boys and girls who are ages 8 – 18. 4-H is open to anyone regardless of race, religion, color, gender, marital status, familial status, national origin, disability, or political belief. WHERE AND WHEN DOES THE MACHESNEY PILOTS 4-H CLUB MEET? We meet one Monday of each month from 6-8. WHAT DO THE “H’S” STAND FOR? · Head ~to think, plan and reason. · He
art ~to be kind, sympathetic and true. · Hands ~to be helpful, useful and skillful. · Health ~to make healthy choices. Each member selects one or more projects to try from more than 175 choices. The member receives a project manual that they work through independently. 4-H members usually work on each project for about a year. Hands-on, learning by doing involvement is the most important aspect of a project. Making, growing, caring for, observing and participating – these are the active learning processes involved in 4-H projects. Our club’s members participate in the dog and cat shows, and are involved in projects such as art, rocketry, cooking, rabbits, rocks, computers, woodworking, and many others. Leaders and parents may help a member with a project, but the members are expected to learn to do it for themselves. IS 4-H JUST FOR FARM KIDS? NO! 4-H is for all youth, regardless of where they live. Most of our club’s members live in town. HOW DO I JOIN? Come to a meeting and fill out the enrollment forms. WINNEBAGO COUNTY FAIR In August, 4-H club members are invited to exhibit their projects at the Winnebago County Fair. This is a culminating activity for the 4-H year, when members’ projects are judged and prizes awarded. Members can win ribbons and monetary awards for their achievements.
