One thing I've learned is that progress often looks smaller than we expect.

We tend to celebrate the big milestones like a new job, a vehicle, a graduation certificate. And those moments deserve to be celebrated!

But before those milestones come dozens of smaller steps.

Showing up to a workshop. Updating a resume. Making a difficult phone call. Creating a budget. Attending an appointment. Asking for help.

The truth is that lasting change is usually built one small decision at a time.

At Care Center, we have the privilege of celebrating the big wins, but we also get to witness the courage it takes to take the next step when no one else sees it.

Sometimes the most important progress is simply refusing to give up.

We're excited to celebrate Michael, who recently received a vehicle through our partnership with Wheelstransinc!

Over the past several months, Michael has been working hard to rebuild his life with purpose, determination, and faith. Through our Thrive at Work program, he developed his resume, strengthened his employment skills, and secured a new job opportunity. Now, thanks to reliable transportation, he has the ability to get there consistently.

Before receiving this vehicle, Michael was doing whatever it took to move forward, even walking nearly 10 miles to get to church and volunteer opportunities. Despite transportation barriers, he stayed committed to serving, learning, pursuing employment, and building a stronger future.

Reliable transportation is about so much more than getting from one place to another. It creates access to employment, education, volunteer opportunities, community connections, and the stability needed to keep moving forward. For many people, transportation is the bridge between potential and opportunity.

Michael's journey is a reminder that when practical barriers are removed, people can focus on building the future they are working so hard to achieve.

Congratulations, Michael! We're honored to be part of your story and can't wait to see what comes next. 🎉

Last night we wrapped up our 5-week Cooking for the Family workshop and one moment stuck with us.

One of the guests came to learn how to cook for her family. By the end, she told a Care Center staff member that the class had sparked something she didn't expect: she's now thinking about pursuing a culinary career through the training at CityLink Center .

She arrived wanting to feed her family well. She left considering a whole new direction.

That's what a real opportunity does. It rarely stops at what it was designed to do. A few weeks of learning your way around a kitchen can open a door you didn't know was there.

None of this happens on its own. Our partnership with La Soupe makes workshops like this possible giving our guests practical skills, a welcoming place to learn, and the space to imagine what comes next. We don't decide where that leads. They do.

We can't wait to see where she takes it.

One thing that continues to stand out to me is that most people don’t need someone to rescue them.

They need opportunity. Encouragement. Practical tools. Consistency. Someone willing to walk alongside them while they take important next steps.

At Care Center, we regularly see people who already have strengths, determination, and goals. Often what’s missing is access, support, or a pathway forward.

That’s why we care so much about programs that build skills, relationships, and long-term stability — not just short-term solutions.

Thriving rarely happens overnight. But when people are supported, encouraged, and equipped, real growth can happen over time.

And it’s a privilege to witness those stories every day.

What happens when people invest in other people?

Lives begin to change.

In our June newsletter, you'll meet participants who are building confidence and finding employment through Thrive at Work, celebrate Jacob's Ladder graduates taking their next steps, and learn how your support is creating opportunities throughout our community.

We're also excited to introduce Laura Griffin, our new Employment Resources Coordinator, who will help expand workforce development opportunities for those we serve.

One thing I’ve learned is that people don’t just need resources — they need dignity.

A clean and welcoming environment matters. Being greeted by name matters. Having someone listen without judgment matters.

When people feel valued, it changes how they see themselves and what they believe is possible for their future.

That’s one reason we care so deeply about the details at Care Center, from the way spaces are prepared by volunteers to the way conversations happen with guests.

Because building stability isn’t only about access to resources. It’s also about creating environments where people feel seen, respected, and encouraged to take next steps forward.

Every interaction has the opportunity to communicate hope.

Today we’re celebrating Candace as she received a vehicle through our partnership with Wheels. 🚗

For Candace, transportation wasn’t just about getting from one place to another. It was the missing piece keeping her from securing employment, balancing school, and making sure her family could get to important medical appointments safely and consistently.

Through our Thrive at Work Employment Pathway, Candace has been taking intentional steps toward stability and employment by building confidence, practical job skills, and preparing for work opportunities.

Now, with reliable transportation, she has greater freedom to pursue employment opportunities, continue building stability for her family, and keep moving toward long-term success.

At Care Center, we believe transportation can change everything. Employment affects housing. Housing affects stability. Stability impacts every part of life. Sometimes one opportunity — like access to a vehicle — can help remove barriers that once felt impossible to overcome.

We’re proud of Candace and excited for what’s ahead. 💙

One thing I’ve realized through the work we do at Care Center is how interconnected stability really is.

A lack of transportation can affect employment. Employment impacts housing. Childcare affects someone’s ability to get to work. Even something as simple as reliable internet access can influence whether someone can complete a job application or access resources.

Often the barrier people see isn’t actually the root issue.

That’s why meaningful support has to go beyond meeting one immediate need. Real change happens when people have opportunities to build skills, access resources, form relationships, and take next steps toward stability over time.

At Care Center, we’re grateful to walk alongside individuals and families in those moments, helping address practical needs while also creating pathways toward long-term thriving.

Because stability is rarely built through one solution alone. It’s built step by step, together.

✨ “I have learned and taken many valuable skills from this workshop to keep adding & building on to my career search.” ✨

At Care Center, this is why we do what we do. Through Thrive at Work, people are gaining practical skills, confidence, and encouragement as they take steps toward long-term stability and meaningful employment.

One recent participant shared:

“I really appreciate all the hard work that you accomplished creating a resource that is both beneficial and rewarding. Thank you so much — I can’t wait to enroll in another valuable learning module.”

We love seeing individuals discover new strengths, grow in confidence, and continue building toward their goals. Every workshop is more than just information — it’s an opportunity to ignite hope and empower people to thrive. 💙
