Recovery is Warfare!

Healing from addiction and trauma is spiritual warfare and the practical application brings healing to our spirit, soul and body.

The war that rages inside our thoughts of temptation, identity, right relationships with others or with God and becoming a new person is real.

We need to recognize that some of this battle is spiritual. We have been reading the Book of Ephesians.

1:11 Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and makes EVERYTHING work out according to his plan."

1:13,14 "and now you Gentiles have also heard the truth of the Good News. When you believed in Christ he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised you long ago. The Spirit is God's guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him."

The inheritance is the guarantee of The Holy Spirit. Which marks us for eternity, gives us the ability to know that God works everything out for our good,
understand scripture, wisdom, council, truth, love, patience, kindness, self-control, goodness, peace, faithfulness, joy & Gentleness.

We connect to the Holy Spirit, like oil for our souls through gratitude!

Gratitude towards a merciful and loving God!

Gratitude releases natural mood boosting chemicals in our brain. Dopamine and serotonin.
-Cortisol is reduced.
-Decreases stress hormones.
-Activates neural networks in the brain associated with reward and emotional regulation.
-parasympathetic activation with gratitude shifts body out of fight or flight response.
- creates neuroplasticity in the brain that enhances empathy, decision making, guilt & shame
- graymatter is increased for better cognitive health.

Connecting to God with grateful hearts with worship and praise heals our brain, our hearts and our spirit.

Practical and spiritual healing in Recovery is warfare by way of Worship!!!!

Connect to Gratitude as Warfare!

Recovery is being in the Presence of God!

We have been exploring all the different ways God heals our Soul (mind, will, emotions).

Our mind (mindsets, thought pattern cycles of addiction, lies we are believing about ourselves or God).

Will be healed through His Word changing the neuropathways in our brain creating new pathways & connections that bind us to Scripture and God's Truth.

The distraction of social media, phones, TV etc. Will keep us addicted to a dopamine hit in our brain that doesn't allow healing to occur.

Quiet time with God in his presence, not only heals the brain but heals our emotional state.

This week, we discussed how worship brings us into the presence of God. His presence is like water to our soul. It satisfies the thirst & hunger that addiction can never satisfy.

Drugs, alcohol, po*******hy, shopping, food, working, relationships. The list can go on. But whatever is used to try to satisfy the soul will not fix the hunger, answer the problem or give you peace.

Practicing the Presence of God, is always going to bring healing, like water to thirst, food to hunger, light for the darkness, clarity for confusion, a vision of hope, the peace for chaos or the answer to a tough journey.

I pray we get the Revelation and Understand the Power of getting into the Presence of God through quiet time of asking and most importantly listening.
(Don't be afraid to hear what God has to say to you, it is always full of Love, even His Truth and He wants to speak to you personally.)

Worshipping a Creator that knows your name, the number of hairs on your head, the desires in your heart and the battles you face.

Quiet, worship, pray, listen and receive for your Recovery!

Recovery is Breaking Strongholds in your mind!

A Stronghold is a pattern of thinking that is negative and powerfully keeps you connected to darkness. Old cycles, old patterns, unforgiveness, offense, unhealthy relationships...

Breaking those negative thoughts is neuroscience!

The supernatural things of God are practical, renewal of your mind and the Word of God have the power to break those strongholds.

Your words and thoughts are not harmless, they are electrical, chemical creative forces reshaping your brain and your destiny.

Every thought you think and every word you speak sends electromagnetic signals through your nervous system. Those signals fire neurons and WHAT FIRES TOGETHER, WIRES TOGETHER !

ROMANS 12: Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, may you be lifted up and thrown into the sea, abd it will happen. But you must really BELIEVE IT WILL HAPPEN AND HAVE NO DOUBT IN YOUR HEART! Mark 11:23

FAITH activates neuroplasticity in your brain!

Don't get stuck in negative cycles, change your thoughts, change your language.

For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. Proverbs 23:7

STOP Believing the old things, the bad things, the hustle, the offense, that things will never change, Iwill never be healed, that person will always do that thing that hurts me, whatever it is....

Start believing, change thought patterns, speak to the mountain with God's Truth!

Recovery is Breaking Strongholds and changing our Destiny!!!!

Capturing thoughts in Recovery
Is neuroscience.

It changes the neuroplasticity in our brains when we think new thoughts.

Every day the challenges that occur in recovery start with how we THINk about our circumstances, our ability to change the course of our journey, to produce results, to overcome challenges.

We start with getting rid old thinking patterns that have kept us in bad cycles.

Capturing every thought that is destructive to your life and your journey.
Replacing it with God's truth for you.

You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.

God always gives us a way out of temptation if you look for it.

Faith for your future, overcoming failure, peace instead of chaos, generosity instead of fear of not enough finances.

We may be challenged, but first we change our thinking, then we change our speaking, and our reality will change!!!

Recovery is attainable! God gives us the ability to change. Replace your thoughts with God's truth.
Supernatural and Natural working together!

The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe. Proverbs 18:10
The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences. Proverbs 18:21
Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Phillipians 4:8

Boundaries-Truth & Love

We have been learning about healthy boundaries as followers of Jesus in recovery.

Recovery is Restoration of Boundaries for ourselves and those around us.

While in Recovery, we need to learn how to have healthy boundaries to have healthy relationships. With family, friends, coworkers, even acquaintances.

We can either be so rigid, we say no to everything and put up walls so no one can come close. Or go to the opposite extreme, say yes to everyone and become an enabler.

Boundaries are protection not rejection. It's a fence with a gate, where you know where you end and someone else begins.

It's not Punishment but Structure to protect peace, emotional, spiritual and mental health.

Loving people from a place of freedom instead of obligation.

Boundaries keep us from rescuing or fixing people who are not taking responsibility for their own lives, where change can take place.

Healthy relationships need Boundaries to grow because love requires boundaries to prevent them from becoming destructive, draining or enabling.

Distinguishing Truth & Love is truth puts limits and grace allows for mistakes and second chances, to bring about a healthy outcome.

Ephesians 4:15 NIV
"Instead, speaking the truth in love, we still grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is Christ."

Shame & Guilt in Recovery

Complex Trauma and Addiction produce an Identity of Shame!

As we navigate relationships in our teachings. It is important to have knowledge about shame identity and how it keeps people in destructive cycles of self-hatred which leads to cycles of addiction.

Education on Complex Trauma is fascinating and I came upon a great video that explains alot about Shame & Guilt cycles.

Shame is not an emotion but it is a negative core belief of who you think you are...

Guilt is about what you do, a behavior that trips the alarm of conscience. Our conscience lets us know when our behavior has violated love for others or love for self.

This powerful alarm can either feed the false Identity of shame ("what i do makes me a bad person") or gives the opportunity to change our behavior. To ask for forgiveness, to stop lying, cheating, using words as weapons, stop using drugs or alcohol to kill the pain of Shame Identity.

I believe an important key to finding relief from Shame is connection to Father God and His unconditional Love for us!

As we experience His Love for Us and Know over and over and over that Father God, Jesus, still loves us even when we mess up. It helps us recognize our identity as Children of God and not accept Guilt and Shame as our Identity.

The people around us are either the builders of Good Identity or they are the ones that perpetuate the shame; parents, teachers, leaders, friends, siblings, spouses, coworkers... Even those with the best intentions can turn sideways in their communication to us, who they think we are.

As we navigate healthy relationships, stand on the truth of who God says you are, stop the cycle of destructive behaviors, forgive and accept forgiveness. Reconnect with the presence of God over and over and over, until you believe with All Your Heart that God Loves You!

Keep seeking your identity in God, His love never fails.

Recovery is
Faith to change,
Faith to receive,
Faith to believe for more!

Faith moves us to believe we can change. We can receive the Love of God in every part of our hearts to bring healing and wholeness.

We are never too far gone, we never make too many mistakes, we never have too many problems for God!

He is waiting for us to turn to him with Faith that says, He is powerful enough to make us strong, to give us hope, to fill our hearts with love. To help us do the right thing!!!

Romans 4:20-5:1-5
"Abraham never wavered in believing God's promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and this brought glory to God. He was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever he promises...
Therefore, since we have been made right in God's sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Because of our Faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God's glory.

We can rejoice too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will Not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit TO FILL OUR HEARTS WITH LOVE!"

HAVE FAITH IN YOUR JOURNEY SO THE HOLY SPIRIT CAN FILL YOU UP!!!

Recovery is experiencing the presence of God, He is safe, He is perfect, He quenches the thirst in our souls.

What your soul craves, The Holy Spirit can satisfy.

Turn off the noise, quietly seek His presence through gratitude, through humility, through His Word, through praise.

Let the exchange take place in your heart as you seek out His presence.

Seek the Lord, while you can find him, call on Him while He is near.

For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour my Spirit upon your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants.
