The HCMC Child Welfare Association is one we have worked with for many years. At our meeting with them this year we learned that they are currently working diligently trying to locate birth certificates for the many orphans in and around the city. Coincidentally we had just spoken with the Sisters at Xuan Phuong Charity Home about the difficulty they are having locating birth certificates for some of their kids. Without them they cannot be enrolled in school.
After the holiday, Mr. Nhuyên will connect these two agencies and see if we can help. You never know where you may be able to help.
Help us by going to www. Childrenofpeace.org and making a donation. While you are there sign up for our email list to get regular updates on our work in Vietnam.

Ehime visiting the Xuan Phương Charity House, ( known to us as Sister Hai’s House), the kids performed once again for us and wished us a Happy New Year. The House looks great after COPI paid for some badly needed repairs and added new curtains throughout.

Each year we present 200 scholarships to primary, secondary and high school students in Phu Yen Province. The person charged with tracking these children and staying in touch with them throughout the school year is our friend and part-time employee, co Viet An. ( third from left). Miss Viet A does a fantastic job of acting as a “ success coach” to keep these students in school. She also assisted us greatly on this trip as we visited with the Board of Education to discuss re-structuring our scholarships to be more helpful to the children. Thank you Miss Viet An!

We can continue these scholarships with your help! Go to www.Childrenofpeace.org to Donate!!

In the village of ban Ho, Sapa, Lao Cai, we visited the site of our new kindergarten school project. We are adding to the existing school, doubling its size with two classroom, a teacher’s workroom and toilet spaces. The funds for this project were provided by the New England District of Key Club, a longtime COPI supporter. The kids enjoyed the hats we provided and officials were present for an official groundbreaking ceremony. The school will be finished in the fall.

The gentleman on the right is Mr. Dao Xuan Minh, our longtime friend and colleague. Mr. Minh was the Director of the Viet Tri Center for Orphans and Disabled Children back in 1995 when COPI first visited there. Since then we have forged a strong friendship with Mr. Minh. After he retired he continued to volunteer with COPI and also acted as our liaison to the Goverments in Viet Tri and Lao Cai to shepherd our projects through smoothly. We owe a huge debt to Mr. Minh. Thank you sir, for your many years of service!

Each class at the Viet Tri Center for Orphans and Disabled Children set up displays to celebrate the TET holiday. This was the first center supported by COPI outside of Ho Chi Minh City. It is located a couple hours northwest of Hanoi. Thirty years later, COPI continues to provide support to this center.
We can do it for another 30 years with your help!

Mr. Pham Phu Nhuyên met COPI when he was eight years old. COPI assisted him to go to school and remain in school. While I school, Mr. Nhuyên volunteered with COPI whenever possible and worked for us periodically. After graduating from college, Mr. Nhuyên is a successful businessman. Now at 35 years of age he has now agreed to become our official representative in Vietnam, and we have opened an office in Ho Cho Minh City. We are very proud of Mr. Nhuyên and he has done a remarkable job leading us on this Admin trip. Here he is shown with Board Secretary Raina Zeeh, as we walk through the streets of Hanoi. Welcome aboard Mr. Nhuyên!

Tomorrow marks 365 days since we lost our leader and friend, binh Rybacki. We have missed her each and every one of those days. As we continue the COPI mission and prepare to again return to Vietnam, our hearts are full of her memory and her passion. Let’s pray for her guidance.

In this season of Thanksgiving we are thankful for the joys of life. Nothing is more joyful than a happy child. This child is Mr. Phu Tri ( Henry) who is the son of our Program Director Mr. Pham Phu Nhuyên and his wife Miss Huyền Trang. Happy babies always make me smile!

Sometimes when you are waiting for the dentist, you just want to SING! This was taken during COPI’s recent medical mission in Vinh Long province.
