Our Community Values

Our Community Values “Our Community Values” is a group of citizens concerned with local government and education in the Loveland, Colorado, area.

"OUR COMMUNITY VALUES" is a local, non-partisan organization dedicated to thoughtful, efficient and functional government, including for school districts, that is operated on behalf of, by, and for the populace. Our three missions are a study of local issues, public education, and issue advocacy. We believe that local government budgeting should be prudent, with a long-range perspective. Provision

s should be made for future maintenance and upgrades, emergencies, and recessions. We believe in due diligence and transparency. Prior to making significant changes, elected officials should research how the change may affect their constituents, --both pro and con, and long- and short-term -- and their constituents should be so notified. Our Mission is to move our local conversation form one focused on ideologies to one focused on the quality of life for all people in our community.

The CHAIRMAN of the WELD COUNTY REPUBLICAN PARTY in Colorado was arrested Thursday in a child predator sting. He is 24 years old. He showed up to buy s*x from someone he believed was a minor.
He faces four felony charges: soliciting a child pr******te, internet luring of a child, cybercrime soliciting to arrange a minor pr******te, and attempted s*xual assault on a child. He previously worked as an aide to Republican legislators at the Colorado State Capitol. Lauren Boebert personally supported his bid for county party chair last year.

The chairman of the Weld County Republican Party in Colorado was arrested Thursday in a child predator sting. He is 24 years old. He showed up to buy s*x from someone he believed was a minor.

As reported by The Colorado Sun and confirmed by CBS Colorado and Raw Story, Hunter Rivera was taken into custody by the Larimer County Sheriff's Office as part of an undercover operation targeting adults seeking to exploit children online.

Investigators posted ads posing as minors on local websites and forums. Several dozen people responded. Two of them actually showed up to the agreed location. Rivera was one of them.

He previously worked as an aide to Republican legislators at the Colorado State Capitol. Lauren Boebert personally supported his bid for county party chair last year.

This is the party that has spent the past four years accusing Democrats of running child trafficking networks. That held congressional hearings about protecting children from predators. That made child safety the centerpiece of its culture war platform. That used the word "groomer" as a political weapon against teachers, librarians, and drag performers.

The Larimer County Sheriff's Office said several dozen people responded to those listings. Rivera did not stumble into this. He saw an ad, he responded to it, he arranged a meeting, and he drove there.

The Republican Party's statement called the charges "sickening, horrifying, and beyond reprehensible."

They called teachers groomers. They called librarians predators. They called drag queens a threat to children. The county chair showed up to the sting.

Pete West Jr.
Come on… this isn’t about efficiency, it’s about control. Mayor McFall and the majority don’t want to deal with residents calling out bad decisions, like how they are handling or not handling the unhoused homeless situation, so the answer is to shrink public comment and call it “reform.” That tells you everything you need to know.
I understand the goal of trying to “streamline” City Council meetings, but reducing public comment from 60 minutes to 45 minutes doesn’t solve the actual problem—it just limits public access.
First, let’s be honest about what’s really happening.
Meetings are running long primarily because of council and agenda length, not because of public comment. Cutting 15 minutes from residents doesn’t meaningfully reduce a 4.5–6+ hour meeting. It just shifts the burden onto the public.
Public comment exists for a reason:
It’s one of the few direct opportunities citizens have to speak to elected officials
It provides input that may not show up in reports or staff presentations
It holds government accountable in real time
Limiting that voice undermines the purpose of having it at all. Public comment is a core part of civic participation and helps ensure transparency and accountability in local decision-making.
On paper, adding a 15-minute “final call” sounds like more opportunity—but in practice, it creates a barrier:
Many residents cannot stay until the end of a 5–6 hour meeting.
That includes:
Working individuals who need to be up early
Parents with children at home
Elderly residents or those with health limitations
People commuting from outside immediate downtown areas
When meetings stretch late into the night, public participation effectively becomes restricted to only those who can afford the time and flexibility to stay. That’s not broad public access—that’s selective access.
Realistically, many people come early, wait for hours, and then leave before the end because they simply can’t stay that long. A “final call” period doesn’t help them—it excludes them.
If meetings are consistently exceeding 4.5–6 hours, then the focus should be on:
Agenda management
Council debate length
Staff presentation efficiency
Use of study sessions for deeper discussion
Public comment is already time-limited and structured. It’s not the driver of these extended meetings.

In looking to control meeting length, the Loveland City Council will consider a proposal to reduce public comment by 15 minutes.
