Grand Family Coalition is a network of Grandparents and other kin raising kin. Our mission is to promote the unity of Grand Families by creating a place where Grand Families and services connect. Through our own experiences we know that resources and services are not always made accessible and often times Grand Families are not aware of the services that are offered, isolating these families from

each other and the resources they need. Our purpose is to provide programs and social activities that promote an inner community of kin raising kin. We promote positive thinking and emotional well-being for Grand Families. We bring awareness to our community concerning the needs of Grand Families and the children in their care. We hope to inspire the children to be involved as well as giving the Grand Families a chance to acquaint themselves with others in their situation. We accomplish this by organizing gatherings which allow them to be involved as they feel comfortable. We support all Grand Families, whether or not they are certified kinship providers or involved with CPS. What We Do:
Self-help groups refers to two or more people that come together to deal with a common problem. These groups are all over the world and often called support groups. These groups are run by and for the members, “experts” themselves.

“You alone can do it - but you can’t do it alone.”

The strength in joining together in a group can help a person stabilize their situation and gain the energy needed to see to their current needs. Joining in a group can help gain a sense of well-being, and lead to self-awareness and give a sense of belonging. The purpose of this group is to create a community of Grand-families and their kin to stay connected and involved with other grand-families in the area. To provide support and understanding of grand-families in need. This group will organize gatherings for social interaction such as play dates, camp-outs, annual gatherings and celebrations of member achievements, such as birthdays. The group will create a “one on one” support organization that will match a graduated grand with a grand in need of communication and support. The group will create a Web based page for communication, information and navigation such as a news-letter, referral to other organizations, Face Book or other social media and contact point for
Grand-families.

Grandfamilies: Stories of Children and the Loving Relatives Who Raise Them
A powerful firsthand look into the lives of grandparents and other relatives stepping in to raise children—and the people and policies that help them thrive. All book sale proceeds will go to Generations United.

Today in the US, more than 2.4 million children whose parents are unable to care for them live in grandfamilies, where they are raised by grandparents or other loved ones. Until recently, their experiences have been all but invisible.

These relative caregivers do time in waiting rooms and court hearings, put themselves at financial risk, and sacrifice their own health, all with the dream of making a better life for the kids they love.

In Grandfamilies, Donna M. Butts, former longtime executive director of Generations United, sheds light on the ongoing fight for the recognition and resources these families deserve. Through heartfelt personal accounts, grandfamily members of all ages and backgrounds share their experiences, giving voice to the millions across this nation who have come together in the spirit of hope and resilience to imagine a better future for their loved ones.

Attention Kinship Caregivers,

I am clearing out many years’ worth of accumulated books focused on raising grandchildren/kin. The collection includes resources on parenting children with trauma, supporting teens, understanding explosive behavior, as well as children’s storybooks designed to help with emotional regulation. Books on bullying, regulation and more. Books written by kindship caregivers with encouraging wisdom who have gone through it.

If anyone is interested, I would be happy to have you come take a look and take whatever you would like off my hands.

To all of the wonderful people who have supported Grand Family Coalition for the last 15 plus years. Thank you so much for your support. Unfortunately, it is time for us to close our doors and move into retirement. I will continue to be an advocate in this new era giving my advice and wisdom to the changing landscape of Child Welfare. So much has changed, pay for kinship caregivers involved in the child welfare system (in some states). Kinship Navigator programs are being reimbursed by the Federal Government for their amazing work with kinship caregivers. More support for families is slowly coming around.
We did what we set out to do, create a community of grandfamilies and the children in their care by providing a place were families and services connect. We supported over 800 members over the years. Provided social activities, peer support, specific resources to help navigate the challenges of kinship care and a connection to community resources that provide specific needs.
If you are considering a donation to an organization worthy of supporting grandfamily and kinship caregivers please consider Realities For Children. Without them we would not have been able to provide the resources that we did. Thanks to our community connections we were able to provide so much more. You can reach Realities For Children at https://www.realitiesforchildren.com/ or their page at https://www.facebook.com/realitiesforchildren/
We still have a community of grandfamily and kinship caregivers, that are a peer support to others, that will continue to connect and meet twice monthly for breakfast. Please feel free to send along a new or family in need. I will still have a connection to grandfamily/kinship serving community organizations, both locally and federally. I will continue my work with Generations United and the GRANDVoice Network. You can reach me at [email protected].
This FaceBook Page however will no longer be active after January 31, 2026.

Raising Grandchildren is not easy. We love them, cherish them and keep them safe. Financially it can be a challenge. Social Security can be a help. But there is so much more that is needed.

The money is critical when grandparents raise grandkids.
