🎉 BREAKING NEWS! 🎉

We did it! The ACT for ALS reauthorization was passed by Congress today. The reauthorization extends the research and treatment access programs established by the original ACT for ALS through 2031, keeping the momentum moving toward a cure.

This victory belongs to the entire ALS community.

We mobilized advocates across all 50 states and worked directly with partners on both sides of the aisle to shape and strengthen the bill, grounding it in what people living with ALS and families tell us every day: move faster, cut the barriers, and generate evidence that turns promising science into proven treatments.

To every advocate who walked into a congressional office and wouldn't leave without a commitment: you did this. To the families who shared their hardest moments, so other families might have more time: you did this. We're grateful to our champions on both sides of the aisle who helped make this legislation possible.

Thank you for being a part of the ALS community and helping make history.

BIG NEWS FOR THE ALS COMMUNITY!

The U.S. Senate has unanimously passed its version of the ACT for ALS Reauthorization Act!

This important legislation helps continue expanded access to promising investigational treatments, supports critical ALS research, and moves us closer to developing more effective therapies for people living with ALS and other rare neurodegenerative diseases.

This victory belongs to every person living with ALS, every caregiver, family member, advocate, researcher, and supporter who has continued to speak up and demand progress.

There is still work to be done. The House and Senate must now come together on a final version and send it to the President’s desk—but today, we are one huge step closer!

For every person living with ALS and every family fighting alongside them, we celebrate this moment with hope. Let’s keep raising our voices until the ACT for ALS Reauthorization Act is officially signed into law!

Because of ALS advocates like YOU, and the tireless work of the ALS Association fighting alongside you every step of the way, this bipartisan legislation was designed to extend and strengthen one of the most impactful federal laws advancing ALS research and access to treatments. The act includes strengthened provisions to increase clinical trial accountability, clarify and accelerate pathways for therapy development, and enhance transparency and oversight at the Food and Drug Administration. And it expands access to promising therapies for people living with ALS.

The ALS Association has been on the front lines pushing this forward for years, testifying before Congress, building relationships with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, and organizing advocates across the country to keep ALS a priority on Capitol Hill. Thank YOU for helping make this historic achievement possible!

Rumberg Family Scholarship

The 2025 Rumberg Family Scholarship was awarded to Chloe Telgkamp.

Chloe is a student in a Doctor of Occupational Therapy program and her academic goals center on neurorehabilitation, assistive technology and research. She plans to focus her research on individuals with ALS, exploring rehabilitation and adaptive interventions that enhance independence and quality of life. Chloe’s choice to pursue a career in OT was deeply impacted by her interactions with her sister, Sam, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2022. Chloe wrote in her scholarship application: “ALS has changed every aspect of our family’s life, but it has also revealed our resilience, closeness, and ability to find the light even in the darkest moments.”

We love hearing how our volunteers make a difference! Cathy, one of our ALS community members, recently received a beautiful haircut from Emily, through our Pals for pALS Home Haircut program. Emily is a talented hairdresser who generously donates her time and skills to Pals for pALS.
