A second chance can change the direction of a life.

Goodwill Kentucky’s Aspire to Recovery program is expanding to support more Kentuckians recovering from opioid and substance use disorders as they transition from incarceration back into the community.

Through career coaching, recovery counseling, transportation assistance, sober housing support, workforce training and connections to second-chance employers, Aspire to Recovery helps individuals build stability, reconnect with opportunity and create stronger futures.

We’re proud to continue expanding this work and supporting more Kentuckians as they build stability, reconnect with opportunity and move forward in recovery.

This program helps people battling opioid and substance use disorders in their transition back to the Louisville community

Chris planned to leave Louisville after his release from incarceration.

Instead, one decision changed everything.

After connecting with Goodwill Kentucky's Aspire to Recovery program, Chris gained access to housing support, transportation assistance, employment resources, and a team that believed in him when he was learning to believe in himself again.

“Before everything, I wasn’t working, I was on drugs, living off the land,” Chris shared. “Now, confidence has helped me. I can do anything I put my mind to.”

Today, Chris is employed, focused on his recovery, saving for independent housing, and continuing to build a stable future despite ongoing health challenges.

This is what pathways out of poverty look like.

Congratulations to Dr. Marsha Berry on 40 years with Goodwill Kentucky!

Goodwillers gathered at the West Louisville Opportunity Center to celebrate Dr. Berry’s incredible milestone and the impact she has made across our organization since joining Goodwill in 1986.

Today, Dr. Berry serves as director of The Excel Center®, but her leadership has shaped so many areas of our mission over the years. Her commitment to serving individuals facing barriers to opportunity has been recognized beyond Goodwill Kentucky, including receiving the Edgar J. Helms Award in 1998, one of the highest honors presented by Goodwill Industries International.

Dr. Berry, thank you for 40 years of leadership, service and dedication to Goodwill’s mission. We are grateful for you!

WLKY recently shared the story of our new Shively store, which opened nearly three years after a fire forced the former location to close.

But the story goes beyond the building.

It also highlights Rachel Hester, whose connection to Goodwill Kentucky began through recovery and grew into employment, confidence and a new chapter. Today, Rachel is the store manager of the new Shively location.

Watch the both segments featuring Rachel Hester, Store Manager and Mehgan Cross, District Manager, at the link below!

Goodwill has opened a new location in Shively nearly three years after a fire damaged the old store.
