Steam Exchange The Steam Exchange is a community arts non-profit located in the Smoketown neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky.

The Steam Exchange is a grassroots nonprofit organization in the Smoketown neighborhood of Louisville that works toward greater equity in our community by amplifying voice, showcasing creativity and leadership, and co-creating collaborative, public art with the youth of color and low-income youth. Our goal is to support Smoketown’s rich history and current residents’ positive sense of neighborhood identity and values. Dialogue with people who live, learn, work, or worship in Smoketown directly shapes workshop content and community projects. SCREEN PRINTING
Our Fee for Service provides a quarter of the Steam Exchange budget and supports our free after school and summer programs for youth who live in the Smoketown neighborhood. A great way to support the Steam Exchange is by hiring us to print products, on-site printing for an event, or to teach a workshop series. We use water-based ink for all of our screen printed shirts. This process is much more environmentally friendly and non-toxic. It provides a great print while ensuring our youth are safe and healthy. Smoketown youth are employed to create screen printed products. Profits are reinvested into Steam Exchange to keep our programs free for Smoketown residents. Printing services include:

T-shirt/tote bag Printing (max orders of 250 shirts)
Screen Printing Events
Printing Workshops
Birthday Parties

SHOP
Along with our screenprinted shirts we sell STEAM Kits on our website and at our Pop Up Shops the second Monday of every month. Activity Kits:
Beads Kit
Longstitch Journal Kit
Slime Kit
Space Kit
Spy Kit
Star Accordion Bookbinding Kit
Steam Activity Kit #1
Steam Activity Kit #2
Water Kit

We also have a past Steam Exchange student's clothing line available for purchase. These limited edition t-shirts were designed and screen printed by Steam Exchange Senior Intern, Shaun Jones. Shaun started his clothing company,17 Fit, in 2017. He recently received a grant from Crafting the Future to expand his clothing line and his business. Shaun will use the profits from these sales to create new 17 Fit designs, so stay tuned for more!

Halfway through the semester and we’re just getting started!

Time is flying, but our students have been hard at work creating and exploring together. Here’s a peek at what we’ve been up to:

Fridays: Our younger students have been loving their field trips with louisvilleecho!

Thursdays: The middle and high school class is working hard on custom mosaics. Rhythm Science Sound came for two sessions to work on this year’s Dream Exchange music!

Wednesdays: Our older scouts are earning their science badge, while our younger scouts are bringing mythical creature sculptures to life!

Tuesdays: The boys class officially completed their first Men of Excellence badge!

Mondays: As always, our homework help is packed and full of energy!

What an incredible day! 💙

Because of 127 generous donors, we officially raised $27,243 in just 24 hours during Give for Good Louisville!

Every single dollar goes directly toward our Campus Expansion—helping us build the next chapter for Steam Exchange.

Thank you to everyone who donated, shared our posts, and cheered us on: THANK YOU.

Your belief in our youth makes all of this possible! 🛠️🎨✨
