Following a credible strike threat, more than 140 warehouse workers at Smith’s Food and Drug, a wholly owned subsidiary of Kroger, have reached a tentative agreement. The workers, represented by Teamsters Local 14, are based at the company’s Las Vegas distribution center.

“These hardworking Teamsters made it clear they would not accept anything less than a strong first contract,” said Jason Gately, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 14. “When management tested their resolve, they stood firm and showed they were ready to strike if necessary. Time was running out, and this agreement is a direct result of their unity and determination.”

Over 400 Kroger home delivery drivers at the company’s Romulus Fulfilment Center in Michigan overwhelmingly ratified a powerful first collective bargaining agreement with Teamsters Local 337. The three-year contract delivers substantial wage increases, affordable health care, additional paid time off, and significant improvements to working conditions.

Workers at Kroger’s Romulus facility voted by a three-to-one margin last year to join Local 337, becoming the first group of workers to organize at one of the company’s fulfilment centers. Their victory has already sparked organizing drives at other Kroger facilities, including the Forest Park Fulfilment Center in Georgia and Kroger’s distribution center in Las Vegas.

“We organized with the Teamsters to win a strong first contract, and that’s exactly what we accomplished,” said Toi Globe, a Kroger driver and Local 337 shop steward. “We’re proud to head into work knowing our rights and livelihoods are protected under a Teamsters agreement. This is just the beginning, and we’re excited to build on our gains in the future.”

Drivers at Kroger’s Forest Park fulfillment center in Georgia have voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike in response to the company’s repeated refusal to negotiate a fair agreement. The workers, represented by Teamsters Local 528, are demanding a first Teamsters contract with strong wages, good benefits, and enforceable workplace protections.

Kroger is one of the largest grocery chains in the U.S., operating over 2,700 stores nationwide. In 2024, the company raked in more than $147 billion in revenue. Despite these massive earnings, Kroger continues to undercut Teamsters at the Forest Park facility.

Always adapting to the challenges of our nation’s evolving workforce, unions are meeting the needs of workers in today’s flexible and nontraditional work environments.

Because no matter what type of job workers are in, by building power in unions, they can speak out for fairness for all working people in their communities and create better standards and a strong middle class across the country.

The U.S. Department of labor reports that:

Wages of union members are, on average, 27 percent higher than those of workers who do not have union representation; 💵💵💵

92 percent of union workers have job-related health coverage, while only 68 percent of non-union workers do; 🚑🚑🏨

73 percent of union workers have a guaranteed, defined benefit pension (Retirement plan), compared to 16 percent of non-union workers. 🏖🏔🏕
