Dancing Well: The Soldier Project

Dancing Well: The Soldier Project provides restorative community dance to veterans and families living with PTSD and/or brain injury.

Dancing Well: The Soldier Project is in its seventh year of providing restorative community dance experiences to veterans with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and/or Brain Injuries (BI). Through a dance experience uniquely tailored to the needs of afflicted veterans, and their families, these individuals benefit from the powerful healing, bonding, and socialization offered by traditional mus

ic and dance. A recent study now published in Journal of Veterans Studies showed participation in the program by veterans with PTSD led to improved mood, outlook on the future, increased feelings of connectedness and reduction in tendencies to isolate. Dancing Well: Bringing Us Together Through Dance

🇺🇸 The Dance Continues! 🇺🇸

Join Dancing Well: The Soldier Project and VA Whole Health on Monday, August 31st, from 4:30–6:00 PM for the 3rd and final dance of our America 250 Summer Dance Series!

What began as a summer series has become so much more—a place where Veterans, families, loved ones, volunteers, and community members can come together, share laughter, enjoy live music, move to the rhythm, and simply enjoy being together.

This final dance is an opportunity to celebrate our Veterans, honor the strength of our military families, and recognize the power of community and connection. You don’t need to know how to dance, and you don’t need to bring a partner. Just bring yourself, your family, a friend, and your willingness to have a little fun!

Dancing, Connection & Whole Health

Dancing Well: The Soldier Project, in partnership with VA Whole Health, hosted the second dance of our three-dance series on July 30th—and what an amazing evening it was!

The room was filled with fun, comfort, laughter, connection, and great dancing! Our Veterans and community members came together to enjoy the healing power of movement, music, fellowship, and simply having a good time together.

Dance is more than just movement—it can create connection, encourage wellness, lift spirits, and provide a welcoming space where Veterans can feel supported and connected to one another.

We are grateful to VA Whole Health for partnering with Dancing Well and helping create meaningful experiences that support the whole person—mind, body, and spirit.

A special thank-you to everyone who came out, participated, danced, encouraged one another, and helped make this evening so special. ❤️

Two dances down… one more to go! We can’t wait to continue dancing, connecting, and celebrating our Veterans together!

With Heavy Hearts…

Today, our Dancing Well: The Soldier Project family and community pause to honor the lives of two of our fellow Veterans who have recently passed away.

Phil Shope (husband of Robin Shope) -

These remarkable individuals were more than Veterans—they were cherished members of our family. They brought strength, resilience, laughter, encouragement, and unwavering support to those around them. Their service to our nation and their commitment to our community have left an enduring legacy that will never be forgotten.

As we grieve this profound loss, we also celebrate their lives, their courage, and the bonds we shared. Though they are no longer with us in body, their spirit will continue to live on in every step we take together, every life we touch, and every act of kindness we extend to one another.

Please keep their families, friends, and all who knew and loved them in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

To our fallen brothers and sisters: thank you for your service, your friendship, and the light you brought into our lives. Rest peacefully. Your mission is complete, but your memory will forever remain in our hearts.

“Some gave all. All gave some. We will remember them always.” 🇺🇸

With love and remembrance,

The Dancing Well: The Soldier Project Family

Celebrate the life of Philip Shope and join others in sharing memories, stories, and condolences.
