Louisville East Lions Club and Indy Thunder Present “The Sounds of Beep Baseball” Community Event
Louisville, KY — The Louisville East Lions Club, in partnership with the Indy Thunder, invite the public to a unique and engaging community event, The Sounds of Beep Baseball, taking place on Saturday, June 27, from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Kenwood Heights Christian Church, located at 5620 Newcut Road in Louisville.
This interactive event is designed to introduce attendees to the sport of beep baseball, an adaptive version of America’s pastime created for individuals who are blind or visually impaired. Guests will have the opportunity to learn how the game is played and even step onto the field to try it themselves.
In addition to hands-on participation, the event will feature a special screening of the documentary “Thunder Rolls: The World of Blind Baseball”. The film follows the Indy Thunder, one of the most successful teams in the sport, as they pursue—and ultimately capture—a National Beep Baseball Association World Championship. The team has won six of the last nine NBBA World Series titles, and in 2025 completed a remarkable 26–0 undefeated season, further cementing their reputation as a dominant force in adaptive sports. Their championship run, marked by elite performance, teamwork, and determination, showcases the highest level of competition in beep baseball.
Members of the Indy Thunder team, along with general manager and assistant coach Darnell Booker, will be present at the event. The team will bring their equipment and lead live beep baseball demonstrations, giving attendees a hands-on opportunity to experience the sport.
The movie will be presented with audio description, a service that provides narrated descriptions of visual elements such as actions, settings, and facial expressions. This allows individuals who are blind or have low vision to fully experience films and television programming.
Light snacks will be provided for attendees, and a commemorative tote bag will be given to the first 250 participants.
Event Schedule:
- 11:00 AM — Doors open for exhibitors (setup)
- 12:00 PM — Doors open to the public
- 1:00 PM — Program begins
- 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM — Beep baseball demonstrations
The dual purpose of the event is to raise awareness and appreciation for both adaptive sports and the importance of accessibility in media. Organizers hope attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how audio description enhances entertainment and ensures equal access for the visually impaired community.
“This event is about opening eyes—both literally and figuratively—to the experiences of those who are blind or visually impaired,” said a representative of the Louisville East Lions Club. “We want people to not only learn about beep baseball, but also understand why accessibility features like audio description are so important.”
