AVAILABLE: Drain Spout was rescued alongside their sibling when their nest was destroyed during a gutter cleaning. Both were raised at DCPR. Drain Spout was adopted, however, due to emergency circumstances, had to be returned. They are an incredibly social and playful bird. Drain Spout wants nothing more than to fly to your head! Their gender is unknown and they display behaviors consistent with both male and females pigeons (can be cuddly, flirty, and enjoys a good play fight). AVAILABLE: Meet Satellite Dish! Satellite Dish is a gorgeous, pied (black and white) Cuban thief pouter than was recently brought to the rescue (and boy, did they give us a chase getting them here!) While we are still getting to know their personality, we do know that they enjoy a good head scratch!

SD’s gender is unknown. They will be finished with quarantine and available for adoption in October 2026. 🖤

AVAILABLE: Hi! I’m Kennedy, a Cuban pouter with a colorful past- literally. When I was found, the undersides of my wings had been dyed bright green and red. Birds like me are often used in the sport of pigeon “thieving,” and while dyed wings usually suggest a female, I have been DNA-confirmed male! (oops?)

I’m still figuring out this whole pet pigeon thing, and my personality has been a little bit of a surprise. Some days I’m brave and curious, ready to see what everyone is up to. Other days I’m a little more reserved and like to take things slowly. However, one thing is always true, I love company! You’ll often hear me contact cooing, checking in to make sure I’m not alone. I may not be ready to jump into your lap on day one, but I genuinely enjoy knowing my flock is nearby.

What I’m looking for is someone who understands that trust is something we build together. If you’re patient enough to let me come out of my shell at my own pace, I think you’ll discover a sweet, charming companion underneath my cautious exterior. My thieving days are behind me. Now, all I want is a home where my colorful past is just another chapter in the story of a pigeon who finally found where they belong.

While I am personally closed to new intakes (Meredith, President), our wonderful rehabbers and fosters have continued to take in pigeons as space allows. With that being said, we have several adoptable birds listed on the website currently. 🙂 Applications are primarily being handled by our lovely secretary and volunteers, so we appreciate patience while we review those ❤️. ADOPTED: Hi! I’m Peter, and I’ve been told I’m one of the most resilient pigeons DCPR has ever cared for. My rescue story started in the worst way imaginable- I was shot because someone decided I was a “pest.” The wound was deep, and things looked pretty grim. But if I could’ve talked back, I probably would’ve borrowed a line from Monty Python and declared, “It’s but a flesh wound!” That stubborn attitude carried me through three surgeries and twice-weekly trips to my amazing veterinarian from April through July. Together, we refused to give up.

These days, I wear my scar with pride, because it reminds everyone just how far I’ve come. You’d never guess everything I’ve been through watching me zoom around. I fly, explore, and get around just like any other pigeon. More importantly, I’ve discovered that life is actually pretty fun! I’m equal parts sass and goofball. One minute I’m acting tough, and the next I’m begging for attention or inviting you to a spirited game of play-fighting. (Don’t worry, those little nips are just my way of saying, “Come on, play with me!”)

I’ve become especially fond of DCPR’s president’s husband, proving that once I decide someone is part of my flock, I’m all in. It takes me a little time to build that trust, but when I do, I’m an incredibly engaging companion with a huge personality. I’m looking for a home that understands a feisty pigeon, laughs at my playful antics, and won’t mind a little beak wrestling now and then. After everything I’ve survived, I think I’ve earned a forever home where being my wonderfully silly self is not only accepted, but celebrated!

ADOPTED: Hello! We’re Breeze and Sunday, and if there’s one thing you should know about us, it’s that sometimes love really does find you when you least expect it. Breeze here (blue bar, female)- I’m a 2025 racing homer who arrived at the rescue with a broken wing and a heavy heart. And I’m Sunday (check, male), a 2026 racing homer who was found weak and alone outside a local restaurant on Mother’s Day. I was still so young I squeaked like a baby! We both ended up in the loving care of our rehab foster, Rachel, and somewhere between the medications, cozy naps, and healing, we found each other.

Our pasts may have been difficult, but our future has always been side by side. We spent our recovery cuddled together, finding comfort in someone who understood exactly what the other had been through. We’re proof that even racing survivors can find peace, safety, and a little romance after leaving that life behind. These days, you’ll usually find us snuggled close, content just being together.

As a bonded pair, our greatest love will always be each other, but there’s still room in our flock for you. Once we learn that we’re safe, we’re both gentle, friendly pigeons who enjoy the company of kind people. With patience, understanding, and a little time, we can become wonderful flock-mates and companions. If you’re looking to welcome not just two pigeons, but a genuine love story into your home, we think you’ll find ours is pretty special.

Hi y’all! We’ve received a few emails lately asking for help containing domestic pigeons. However, no contact or specific location information (like an address) is ever given in these emails. As a reminder, our adoption application requires a photo of the physical cage you have already purchased for the bird in order to move beyond the initial application stage. Inspiration photos, screenshots of cages you plan to buy, or photos of cages still in progress do not meet this requirement.

To be clear, we do not require the cage to be decorated or fully set up at this stage. We discuss cage setup, enrichment, and décor during the interview process, and we understand that many adopters prefer to wait until they have been approved before purchasing those items. However, the cage itself must already be in your possession.

Over time, we have made exceptions to this requirement at the request of applicants. Unfortunately, this has frequently resulted in applications being "pre-approved pending cage purchase," only for communication to cease after we have invested significant time reviewing applications and conducting interviews.

We are a small, volunteer-run rescue. Currently, only two volunteers are available to review applications and conduct interviews (one being myself), and I am personally undergoing multiple surgeries and medical procedures this summer. Because of this, we need to be mindful of where our limited time and resources are spent.

Thus, as stated on our application, only applications that include photos of the applicant's actual cage will be considered for follow-up communication. You are welcome to complete the application before purchasing a cage, but we will not begin the review process or reach out regarding the application until cage photos have been received.

We appreciate everyone's understanding and cooperation as we work to ensure our volunteers can continue helping as many birds as possible.
