Churchill Downs VFW Post 2921 was mustered into service on December 3, 1933. Our name is from the famed Churchill Downs Racetrack where some of the organizational early meetings were held prior to the actual establishment of the Post. Between the years of 1937 and 1949 the Post itself was located where the Kentucky Derby Museum now stands. Between the years of 1949 and 1989 the Post Home was acros

s the street sitting on the corner of Central Avenue and Rodman Street still in the shadow of the famed twin spires. Due to the widening of Central Avenue the Post was forced out of it's location and is now located near the corner of 7th Street Road and Arcade Avenue. As a Veterans Service Organization we strive daily to not only support those events and activities that benefit our veterans and service members, but the members of our community as well through various means. Some of these events and activities over the years have included: Sponsorship of a youth essay program where the top national prize is a $30,000 scholarship; patriotic observances on Veterans Day and Memorial Day; working with local civic organizations to provide holiday food baskets; sponsorship of the annual Toys Fort Tots drive; providing free VA Claims assistance to veterans and their surviving family members; information on employment resources for veterans and many other endeavors. Yes, we do have a barroom / lounge (canteen) for our members and guests. Profits from the canteen go towards assisting with the various community and veterans causes that we lend support to. Our monthly meetings for both the Post and Auxiliary is the 4th Sunday of each month starting at 2 pm

Our Story

Churchill Downs VFW Post 2921 was founded as a Veterans Service Organization in the 1930s. Our name is from the famed Churchill Downs Racetrack where some of the organizational early meetings were held prior to the actual establishment of the Post. As a Veterans Service Organization we strive daily to not only support those events and activities that benefit our veterans and service members, but the members of our community as well through various means. Yes, we do have a barroom / lounge (canteen) for our members and guests. Profits from the canteen go towards assisting with the various community and veterans causes that we lend support to.

As one of the leading veterans service organizations in Louisville we encourage that all veterans who may be qualified for VFW membership to join our Post, or the VFW in general. And if joining our Post to become an active member via meeting attendance and support for the events and activities of the Post as a whole.

Simplified requirements for membership are:

*Honorable military service as evidenced by characterization of service on their DD 214 Military personnel can join as well, however, if military service is terminated by reason of less than honorable conditions they will lose their member status;
