April is more than just a new month it’s a reminder that second chances change lives.

April is Second Chance Month, a time to recognize that people are more than their past and that redemption, growth, and opportunity should always be within reach.

I’m living proof of that.

After being sentenced to a total of 28 years and losing my right to vote for 22 years, I fought to reclaim my voice and in 2020, I received a pardon from Governor Beshear. That moment wasn’t just about me it was about what’s possible when we believe in people instead of counting them out.

Since then, I’ve dedicated my life to making sure others don’t have to walk that journey alone.

Through my work with Life Coach Each One Teach One Reentry Fellowship and Savvy Shabazz Solutions, I’ve:
*Assisted individuals with employment leads
*Sent funds through JPAY and other institutional outlets
*Advocated for national and statewide bills and local ordinances for change
*Finding resources for their education
*Helped educate and empower over 1,000 incarcerated individuals through jail-based voting
*Advocated across Kentucky and the nation for voting rights, Clean Slate policies, Involuntary Servitude, and fair chances
*Built a life skills curriculum that bridges the gap between reentry and recovery
*Stood in rooms from the Kentucky State Capitol to the nation’s Capitol to push for real change

Second chances are not just about forgiveness they are about opportunity, accountability, and transformation.

This month, I challenge everyone to: Support policies that remove barriers for returning citizens
*See people for who they can become not just where they’ve been
*Invest in programs that create pathways to success

Because when one person gets a second chance, entire families and communities benefit.

Let’s keep building a world where second chances are not rare, but expected.
