It requires employers to give employees a “reasonable time,” and not less than four hours if requested, to:

Vote on Election Day

Apply for or cast an absentee ballot

Serve or train as an election officer

May is Mental Health Awareness Month!
This month is a reminder that healing is real, support is necessary, and conversations about mental health must continue especially in communities that have been overlooked for far too long.

As someone who has lived through the challenges of incarceration and reentry, I want to highlight something that doesn’t get talked about enough: Post Incarceration Syndrome (PICS).

PICS is real! It shows up in anxiety, depression, hypervigilance, difficulty trusting others, and struggling to adjust back into everyday life and for many, the trauma doesn’t end when incarceration ends it follows them home.

That’s why awareness matters!

We must advocate for:
*Mental health support for formerly incarcerated individuals
*Trauma-informed care in reentry programs
*Safe spaces to talk, heal, and grow
*Understanding instead of judgment

Acknowledging PICS is a step toward breaking cycles and building stronger individuals, families, and communities.

Let’s continue to educate, uplift, and support one another, not just this month, but every day!

Today marks the last day of Second Chance Month here in Kentucky.

As I reflect, I’m reminded that this month wasn’t just about awareness, it was about action, movement, and purpose!

From traveling to Atlanta for the Building Power at the Margins Conference with Barred Business, to flying to Washington, D.C. to advocate with REFORM at our nation’s capital for the Safer Supervision Act this month has been about using my voice in rooms that matter.

It’s been about consistency too, hosting our weekly meetings with Young People In Recovery West Louisville Chapter, creating space for healing, growth, and accountability in our own community.
It’s been about sharing my lived experience, standing in truth at the Fathers in Recovery Workshop, showing that incarceration does not define us, but how we rise from it does.

It’s been about connection, attending the Voices of Hope Peer Conference and standing alongside my national family of formerly incarcerated leaders, advocates, and change-makers who continue to push this work forward every single day. Debriefing our efforts in the fight for a Clean Slate Kentucky and I got to catch up with my sista Amanda Hall!

Second Chance Month may be coming to an end, but for me, this work doesn’t stop on April 30th.

Because second chances aren’t just a moment…

They’re a movement and I’m committed to making sure others have access to theirs.
