Presbyterian Disaster Assistance

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance PDA is the PC(USA)'s disaster response and refugee program. PDA does not receive any federal funds.

PDA is funded by gifts to the church’s One Great Hour of Sharing offering and designated gifts, we annually respond to at least 20 U.S disasters and 30 international disasters. PDA is a member of ACT Alliance, Interaction, and National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters (NVOAD). We adhere to the International Red Cross Code of Conduct, and do not discriminate based on ethnicity, religion

or political opinion; we do not seek to promote any particular religious or political viewpoints. PDA works nationally through its local judicatories (presbyteries and synods). A specialized volunteer disaster team provides consultation and assistance as these regional offices design the local response and build relationships within their bounds. Internationally, PDA works through local partners, including Presbyterian and Reformed partner churches, ecumenical partners, and other faith-based or non-governmental indigenous organizations.

PDA is starting a new series: at the beginning of each week, we will share a new prayer as we recognize the long-term impacts of natural and human-caused disasters. We invite you to share your specific prayer concerns in the comments, if you feel called, so we may pray together as a community. This week, we lift up those who have lost their homes to wildfires.
Let us pray,
Loving God, we pray that your presence may be near to those who have lost their homes and much of what filled them due to wildfires. Comfort them in their grief and provide for their daily needs. Lead them gently toward a place to settle again. Amen.

“Evicting the American Dream, ” a PC(USA) documentary examining the root causes and systems that lead children and families to be evicted from their homes, has earned an Award of Excellence from the IMPACT DOCS Awards.

The documentary, which has been seen by thousands of people in grassroots screenings around the country and is also available through streaming, is a project of Stories Productions, the Story Ministry of Presbyterian Disaster Assistance.

PDA is in communication with our partner in Nepal following yesterday's catastrophic flash floods and landslides to offer resources, support and solidarity. This disaster has claimed more than 350 lives and more than 1,300 are still missing. Please join us in praying for our siblings in the affected regions.

Rescue teams are searching for hundreds of missing people along the Nepal-China border after a deadly torrent of water and mud swept through communities following a glacier collapse.

We are honored to share that our film, "Evicting the American Dream" has received an Award of Excellence from the Impact DOCS Awards. These awards focus on the power of documentary film and how it is a resource in movements for change, which has been our hope for this film. "Evicting the American Dream" amplifies the voices and stories of children and families confronting homelessness and eviction and explores the root causes and systemic issues that perpetuate this epidemic.
