People from all over the country gathered online Wednesday with Migration Accompaniment Ministries (MAM) to pray for victims of the federal immigration crackdown.
MAM, which is part of Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, came together with other immigration advocates and the general public for the “Prayer Service for the Disappeared,” an evening program to honor those who have been whisked into immigration custody, including many who’ve lost their lives. Presbyterian Disaster Assistance's Migration Accompaniment Ministries were in Texas last week meeting with our ecumenical partners and activists on the ground in Texas. The conference had educational workshops, but more importantly we were witness to the power of working together. We stood in witness with the people directly impacted and in solidarity with our siblings in Texas who are experiencing some of the worst anti-immigrant legislation.

PDA helped in the planning of the conference. A special thanks to the ecumenical partners who made this possible: Week of Compassion, United Church of Christ, Texas Impact, Mennonite Central Committee - MCC, and CWS!

We are so thankful to First Presbyterian Church in Milton, FL for hosting a group of first responders for 3-4 weeks while they clean up after Hurricane Isaias!

At the beginning of each week, we share a new prayer as we recognize the long-term impacts of natural and human-caused disasters. This week, we offer a prayer for communities recovering from mass violence and shootings. We invite you to share your prayer requests in the comments.

O God,
Our anguish and grief are too deep for words.
Embrace the families and communities
whose loved ones have been killed or wounded.
Weep with us. Hold our broken hearts.
Deliver us from this horror,
and do not let despair have the last word.
Be our hope. Be our strength. Be with us.

PDA has connected with impacted presbyteries and networks in the aftermath of Hurricane Isaias. Please continue to join us in praying for the wellbeing of congregations who were unable to worship in-person today, the safety of responders providing care and cleanup across their communities, and the comfort for all those homes and lives were devastated by the storm. We are grateful for this reminder from the Presbytery of Florida: “Our calling is not simply to withstand the storm, but to reflect and reveal the selfless love of Christ in all that we do after the storm.”

Mientras continuamos en oración por todas las personas en la trayectoria del huracán Isaías, también elevamos en oración a nuestros hermanos y hermanas en Panamá y los países vecinos afectados por el reciente terremoto de magnitud 7.7. Nuestros colegas de Presbyterian Committee on the Self-Development of People han estado en contacto con organizaciones hermanas en la región, y damos gracias a Dios porque se encuentran a salvo.

As we continue to pray for everyone in the path of Hurricane Isaias, we also hold in prayer our siblings in Panamá and neighboring countries affected by the recent magnitude 7.7 earthquake. Our colleagues with the Presbyterian Committee on the Self-Development of People (SDOP) have been in contact with partners in the region, and we give thanks that they are safe.
